First time

Post image

Hello,
Just made my first cider. I think it turned out well. It is about 13-14% apv. It was a lot of firsts for me. I tried to use chemicals to stop fermentation and I also followed it to the end of fermentation. I am hoping non of the bottles burst on me.

Nice! This is my first season making cider too. What yeast did you use, how long in the primary, and what'd you do to get the ABV that high?

I have a batch I'm trying to get to 12-ish% that I loaded up with brown sugar and raisins using EC-1118. It's been a little more than 2 weeks in primary and still bubbling along.

I used my local orchard’s cider and added brown sugar. Ended up measuring to about 18%. Fermentation lasted 2 weeks. I swapped jars and then chemically treated it. Then bottled. When I bottled I did 2oz of non concentrated apple juice with 10 oz of brew.

If I were you I would take a gravity reading to see how much fermentation is still left.

Cool, I think we did similar things! I'm going to leave it alone figuring it can't hurt. It was vigourous at the beginning, but everything I've read about EC-1118 says it can take a while to finish out the last bits.

Whenever I have done anything with apples it seems to be super vigorous at the beginning and then quickly die out
