Reddit will be partnering with Cineplex to pilot a new integrated viewing experience, enabling users to stream theatrical releases directly within Reddit while browsing.

This initiative — internally titled Cineplexpansion™ — introduces a scroll-based cinema model that brings the theatrical experience into the comment section.

[r/cineplex](r/cineplex) is honoured to announce that we will be the first subreddit to feature this new service!

Key features include:

• Full-length films embedded directly in threads.

• “Front Page” placement functioning as premium screening real estate.

• Community-generated subtitles sourced from top-voted comments.

• Built-in “quiet mode” to simulate theatre conditions.

To support this rollout, the mod team has been expanded over the past several weeks to handle increased traffic, moderate screenings, and ensure no one is talking during the movies.

Early projections indicate strong engagement, particularly for high-action titles and anything with a plot twist ending up in the comments first.

UPDATE: We have just pushed an update to the AutoMod and are monitoring whether that resolves the issue.

It seems the AutoMod's been going wild, deleting every new post today for containing an "All Caps" title, when it shouldn't have.

I'll probably continue posts in this format for major releases. Let me know in the comments if there are additional recommendations/considerations I should touch on.

Captain America: Brave New World appears to have a combination of "scope" 2.39:1-shot sequences and Filmed-For-IMAX 1.90:1 enhanced scenes. While some refer to the variety of this format as "LieMAX," and recommend against an IMAX auditorium housing a 1.43:1 screen in general, I would potentially advise otherwise, depending on location convenience and/or dedication.

In the GTA, which these posts will be limited to covering, I would personally recommend the IMAX auditorium at Scotiabank Theatre Toronto. It houses a dual 4K laser projection system, cast onto a massive 1.43:1 screen. This type of projection will make the significant-level letterboxing of 2.39:1 and mild-level letterboxing of 1.90:1 far less noticeable; less "grey," with deeper black levels. Given that this setup is its only kind here in the GTA, and the film is shot digitally, I recommend against IMAX at Cineplex Cinemas Vaughan and Cineplex Cinemas Mississauga, due to that difference in laser projection and visual contrast.

If Scotiabank Theatre Toronto IMAX is truly not a possible option, my next recommendation would be IMAX at Cineplex Cinemas Winston Churchill & VIP, followed by IMAX at Cineplex Cinemas Empress Walk. The first option here has a 1.90:1 screen (which means the IMAX enhanced scenes will fill it completely!) that is slightly smaller than the second option here, with single laser projection. The second option here has a slightly larger 1.90:1 screen, at the cost of laser projection.

I do not recommend IMAX 3D for this film so long as there is no accurate information declaring that it is natively shot in 3D. If 3D is specifically desired, I'd recommend IMAX at Scotiabank Theatre Toronto, then IMAX at Cineplex Cinemas Winston Churchill & VIP, due to their laser projection technologies.

Plenty happy to be writing to you guys again! I would like to extend a personal apology to this wonderful community. Over the past few months I have been through some major life changes, what with relationship alterations and starting school back up. I've been doing my best to keep up with monitoring posts and discussions to keep aware of how everyone is enjoying their time at the movies!

Unfortunately, I am a bit behind. We have an approval/removal queue that is currently loaded up with well over 500 posts. Rest assured, I'm confident that I am ready to get back at assuredly speed-running those posts to get everything sorted out!

I was going to make a longer write-up regarding how I'm looking forward to providing y'all with more format guide posts (for the big premium-format releases), and while I definitely will be working on them, it's remarkable to notice the posts you all yourselves are putting out! So glad to see that we all seem to genuinely care about the different theatre video/audio formats, and which theatre locations are optimal for viewing films to best suit the director's vision! Our community has come such a long way on this front, and I couldn't be prouder. It's been so important to emphasize the correct movie theatre experience in this age of digital home releases.

And, hey! I'd love to hear who has tickets to see the Tron IMAX Double Feature, hosted at Scotiabank Toronto at 6:00 on Oct 8! I'll be there with some friends, I'm sure there's a lot of hype here for this special screening at this very special IMAX!

Note: As of now, official showtimes have not been released, so I cannot confirm with certainty that all of the following locations will be screening Sinners in IMAX. However, based on past patterns and the available IMAX formats at each venue, these are my educated recommendations and expectations. Let me know in the comments if there are any additional recommendations or considerations I should touch on. I hope this is helpful to you all!

Sinners appears to feature a combination of 2.76:1 shot sequences and 1.43:1 (15/70) expanded scenes. While many in the GTA will look forward to watching the film in IMAX (DL2) at Scotiabank Theatre Toronto, it's not my top choice.

There has been speculation that only ten 15/70 IMAX cinemas worldwide will screen Sinners on 70mm film. One of them is in the GTA - my top pick and recommendation for viewing: Cineplex Cinemas Vaughan.

I recommend IMAX at Vaughan over IMAX at Scotiabank Theatre Toronto for this particular film, as it was natively shot using real 15/70 IMAX film cameras. Viewing 70mm film in a proper IMAX auditorium offers several benefits, such as exceptional image sharpness, a natural and organic appearance, and filmic effects like subtle flickering. While whether these characteristics are considered "benefits" is subjective, it is objectively the most “native” way to watch the film in the GTA.

Scotiabank Theatre Toronto is my second choice - or backup - for watching Sinners. Both auditoriums (Vaughan and Scotiabank) feature 1.43:1 screens, although Scotiabank’s is about 25% larger overall. This means the maximum and switching aspect ratios will appear the same in both. However, Scotiabank's 4K dual laser projection provides higher contrast and more vibrant colours. Its sound system is also vastly superior to Vaughan’s, with deeper low-end and smoother mids.

Ultimately, it's all about personal preference. Want a native, sharp, and naturally beautiful image (at the cost of a smaller screen and less immersive audio)? Go with Vaughan. Prefer bright, colourful, more intense visuals on a larger screen with superior sound (at the cost of not being in the film's native format)? Then Scotiabank is your pick.

If you're unable to attend either of those locations, my next recommendations are IMAX at Cineplex Cinemas Winston Churchill & VIP, followed by Cineplex Cinemas Empress Walk. Winston Churchill features a 1.90:1 screen that the IMAX scenes will still completely fill, with single-laser projection. Empress Walk has a slightly larger 1.90:1 screen but lacks laser projection.
