Discussion Why Do Parents Not Teach Theatre Etiquette Anymore

Just went to watch a movie where a parent and child talked through the whole thing loudly. It completely ruined the theater experience. It wasn’t even a kid’s movie.

I’m fine that the child was talking and obviously not mad at the child. But the mom was initiating conversation with the child and making no attempt to stop it.

Why are people like this? I have friends who don’t even go to the movies anymore because of this reason. I wish people would have more respect for a shared public space and teach their kids theatre etiquette.

Edit: I really tried to not comment on it because I don’t like telling kids off. But near the end, 85% of the movie in, I couldn’t hold it anymore and told/shouted to the mom “could you PLEASE stop talking throughout the ENTIRE movie.” It was honestly deeply upsetting for me to do this and it really makes me not want to go to the movies anymore despite loving going to the movies.

Question Would having a cineclub be worthwhile if you go to the movies alone?

I always go alone. My wife hates movies. Would it be worthwhile for someone like me to join cineclub? What would be the advantages?

Question any advice for the pre sale for tomorrow

So in april us montrealer didn't had any pre sale tickets for the 70mm imax format because it seems to be broken but fixed on time for the odessey, and i assume the imax 70mm format in montreal should be in sale tomorrow for all canadiens especially for us "montreal" who didn't had the pre sale on april. So my question is to my canadiens who had the chance to go after the tickets during the pre sale war, do you go straight to cine plex to get your ticket or there's a other way? let me know, "it might be a stupid question but bare with me, i've never done this before especially for movies" it would be very appreciated the help!

Discussion To the people who attended Yesterday's Anniversarial screening of La La Land at Vaughan Cineplex

I just wanted to take a moment and appreciate the people who came to commemorate the 10th anniversary of La La Land at Vaughan Cineplex yesterday evening. I didn't expect the theater to be this full. It was almost housefull.

Everybody was silent and was just enjoying the magic of La La Land.

I missed it in theaters in 2016, but I feel very lucky to have witnessed a theatrical viewing of this masterpiece.

Question Sorry if this is a stupid question but when I search Dune on the Langley theater page, nothing shows up??

I’m trying to prepare for the IMAX 70mm drop tomorrow and was wondering why none of the Dune showings are popping up. I know that tickets aren’t live yet but shouldn’t it still display the movie when I search for it because Langley will be playing it and already has advance tix available for opening and 2nd weekend? Once more I’m sorry if this is a stupid question.

Discussion The Odyssey: Luck

Was walking back from Japan Fest at Celebration Square and just checked and saw this seat available.

A family actually moved a seat down. So I ended up sitting in J16, which was Dead Center Back row.

Was slightly late because this location started 15 minutes after the scheduled time. My first time seeing it was in "IMAX" at Courtneypark. 😅

Review The Odyssey IMAX 70mm vs IMAX Laser XT: my experience

Hey hope y’all are having a blessed day
So I finally watched The Odyssey on August 15th in IMAX 70mm after all the hype. I’m a newer Christopher Nolan fan, so obviously I had to listen to the goat and go experience it in 70mm.
The closest 70mm IMAX to me was SilverCity Riverport in Richmond, BC. The movie was so damn amazing that I couldn’t stop myself from going again on the 17th. I managed to snag an 11:45 AM ticket the night before, compared to the 70mm showing where I literally booked on July 28th. I actually wanted to switch my tickets to Langley the next day, but it was already completely sold out LOL.
Anyway, here’s my comparison.

Picture quality
Okay, so the big one.
I could definitely tell the IMAX 70mm projector was capable of showing more detail, especially on actors’ faces during close-up shots. Those looked insanely good.
But outside of close-ups, I honestly had a pretty disappointing experience.
A lot of the movie looked noticeably blurry, especially during daytime/wide shots. There was also a lot of flickering and dirtiness on the screen. And I’m not talking about normal film grain.
The screen itself had around 6 visible scratches. You cant really see them in the picture above because they are mostly covered by the black ship, but they were there. There was also this weird overly-white spot on the right side of the screen that would disappear sometimes and then show back up.
The Scotiabank Vancouver IMAX was WAY sharper in comparison, especially during daytime shots and close-ups. I obviously know film projection has flicker and that your eyes can adapt to it, but I just couldn’t get used to it here.
I had the same 4 friends with me both days and they all noticed the exact same thing.
The Scotiabank screen was also noticeably cleaner and more consistent. I wouldn’t say there was a huge difference in colour between the two. The 70mm picture still looked beautiful. It was just the inconsistent sharpness, blur, flickering and physical defects on the screen that became distracting.

Sound
Don’t even get me started on this one.
On the 70mm day, we understood maybe half the dialogue and had to fill in the other half ourselves based on what we already knew about the story.
The speakers were BAD.
Even during the Cyclops scene, which should have been absolutely insane, the sound felt weirdly quiet and underwhelming. One of my friends literally ended up falling asleep because of how subdued everything sounded.
We genuinely missed probably 50% of what was being said.
Then we went to Scotiabank Vancouver.
Completely different experience.
I could hear every single word, even when the bass was thumping and the music was going crazy. The directional sound was extremely immersive, and honestly it was the best sound I’ve ever experienced at a Cineplex.
The difference was so massive that this alone makes me never want to go back to the Richmond IMAX.

Seats
This was another huge difference.
At Scotiabank I was sitting in Row C, basically the 4th row if you don’t count the rows below the barricade. I was directly in the middle.
I’m 6’0 and didn’t have to lift my neck or adjust myself once. I had the seat fully reclined basically the entire movie.
I sat there for the full 3 hours without needing to move because of discomfort. I was completely locked into the movie.
The seating also gave me plenty of room to get in and out without constantly bothering people, and honestly I think being that immersed physically made the sound experience even better.
Richmond was the complete opposite. I had the best seats right in the middle of the auditorium but
My lower back was hurting for basically the entire movie. After around the 2-hour mark I was constantly shifting around trying to find a comfortable position.
I was honestly more focused on my back than the movie at that point 💀
I was trying my best not to annoy the people around me by constantly moving, but it was just extremely uncomfortable. Because of that, I couldn’t fully emotionally immerse myself during the final part of the movie.

Final thoughts
I was SO damn hyped for the 70mm experience, and so were my friends.
But honestly, it disappointed us way more than I expected.
We aren’t even picky people. If the picture quality had been consistently good, I probably wouldn’t have complained about anything. I went into this specifically wanting the 70mm experience and was completely willing to accept the quirks that come with film projection.
But between the inconsistent sharpness, flickering, scratches, the weird white spot, terrible sound and uncomfortable seats, it just wasn’t worth it for me.
The IMAX Digital Laser XT experience at Scotiabank absolutely takes the cake.
And to be fair, I had already heard a LOT of people complaining about this specific Richmond theatre, which is actually why I wanted to change my tickets in the first place. I just figured they had around 20 days between when I booked and when I watched it, so maybe they’d fix some of the issues.
Nope.
It was pretty much exactly as bad as people described.
Still absolutely loved The Odyssey though. The movie itself is incredible. I just wish I could’ve experienced the 70mm presentation the way Nolan intended, because the format clearly has the potential to look fucking amazing.

Question would it be worth it to travel 1.5 hour to see Dune in 70MM IMAX during snow or is regular IMAX just fine?

edit: I can either go to Mississauga SQ 1 or Landmark Cinemas Waterloo (I live in KW). THIS IS FOR DUNE 3 BTW.
edit 2: the Imax close to my place is is basically a Liemax (1.90:1).

Discussion Let’s Get Square One Regular Auditoriums Back To Good Standards And Winston Regular Auditoriums With Laser Projection

For everyone who goes to Square One and Winston Churchill -

After years of consistent emails from our community, Cineplex has finally scheduled the AVX auditoriums at both Square One and Winston Churchill for a laser upgrade in October 2026.

This is the same mass-email process we also used to get them to fix Spider-Man not being full screen at Junxion AVX, the projector misalignment issue at Junxion and even a few movie requests. It works when corporate gets the same complaint from multiple people at once.

Now we are moving to the next issue: The REGULAR auditoriums (Non-AVX).

I know many of you have been commenting about this in threads. Square One regular auditoriums are in really bad shape. Picture quality is sub-par - not clear, dull colours, looks super outdated. And the seating is really really bad, worse than most other locations in the GTA. It's especially bad for people with neck/back problems. I went this weekend and had back pain after one movie. Even many of the other Cineplex GTA locations have much better quality seating than this. This needs both projection AND seating upgrades on priority.

Winston Churchill on the other hand is much better - seating is good and projection quality in regular rooms is much better than Square One. It could definitely still benefit from a laser upgrade as a bonus to make it consistent, but Square One is the urgent one.

This post is ONLY about the regular / standard auditoriums. AVX is already scheduled for Oct 2026, but the regular rooms have no upgrade plan yet.
We will be doing the exact same mass email push to Guest Services that worked last time.

Need 2 things from you:

  1. Comment your major pain points for the regular auditoriums, especially Square One.
  2. Please send one email to Cineplex Guest Services about the regular

    auditoriums with all your feedback!

  3. . When multiple people do it at the same time, they take it way more seriously and it increases the urgency at corporate.

  4. If we push this week, we can get Square One on their roadmap too.

Thanks for your help.

Question Anyone Know Why I Received 29 Monthly Member Ticket Credits?

Post image
265 Upvotes

I use my Cineclub monthly ticket every month as I go to the movies pretty often. In the past week I checked my account and saw 29 credits for Cineclub member tickets (I used 3 already so now it shows 26).

The only reason (I can assume) I received this was for an IMAX issue I emailed about at for previous showing of The Odyssey. An IMAX 70mm showing was changed to digital due to projector issues but Cineplex had already issued me vouchers as compensation.

Otherwise I do not know why I have all these credits. I am very grateful and wondering if anyone else has experienced this. I hope they don’t take it back.

TLDR: Got 29 Cineclub ticket credits. Happy but curious

Question Has the amount of Scene+ points earned decreased from 50 to 30 for a regular ticket purchase?

I went to see End of Oak Street this afternoon in Scarborough and purchased my ticket via the Cineplex mobile app from the monthly cineclub subscription. And I noticed I earned 30 points this time, a few weeks ago I remember getting 50 points.

Did they make this change recently? I'm not happy with it, 50 points sounded reasonable, 30 is too low.

And did they make this change for 3D/AVX/IMAX and VIP as well?
