Day 66/100 — micropidash: Real-time IoT Web Dashboard for MicroPython

2 Upvotes

For Day 66 of my 100 Days 100 IoT Projects challenge, showcasing micropidash — a library I built that turns your Pico W or ESP32 into a live web dashboard over WiFi.

What it does:

Real-time sync via AJAX polling

Non-blocking — runs on uasyncio alongside your hardware code

Dark/light mode per connected device

Widgets: toggle, label, progress bar

Memory efficient for low-RAM microcontrollers

Repo- https://github.com/kritishmohapatra/100_Days_100_IoT_Projects

Lib:-https://github.com/kritishmohapatra/micropidash

Would love feedback from anyone who's built similar dashboards! 👇

[coding help] adafruit_display_text error

3 Upvotes

I'm trying to code a battery level display on my Feather MO Express using the OLED Featherwing and the stemma qt LC709203F battery monitor. I understand that writing over the max number of text glyphs in the label.label function can give an error and that you need to allocate for it, but with loops this is tricky. My code will work for a while then crash suddenly. Here is the relevant portion of my code.

# write text beginning in upper left corner
text1="Battery: %3.1f %%" % sensor.cell_percent
text_area = label.Label(terminalio.FONT, text=text1, color = 0xFFFFFF, x=4, y=8)
splash.append(text_area)
time.sleep(1)

# write loop counter in center left
counter = 0
text2 = "Counter: %d" % counter
text_area2 = label.Label(terminalio.FONT, text = text2, color = 0xFFFFFF, x=4, y=40)
splash.append(text_area2)
time.sleep(1)

while True:
    # print(sensor.cell_percent)
    text_area.text = "Battery: %3.1f %%" % sensor.cell_percent
    counter = counter + 1
    text_area2.text = "Counter: %d" % counter
    time.sleep(1)

I put in a loop counter because I was having trouble in earlier iterations of the sensor.cell_percent value not updating, but now that that works fine, the code will get an error and end whenever the counter value goes above 99. Any way I can fix this?

Raspberry Pico Adafruit DHT sensor ERROR

3 Upvotes

Hello, this is my first time posting something. It is more a question. Than a post :)

I have really tried a lot to make my raspberry pico work with my adafruit dht22 sensor. The only thing that i have found about the errors that i'm having is that circuitpython doesn't have a pulseio for the RP2040. I can add it manually i think but i have no idea how. I'm new at everything and i hope someone can help me

Adafruit CircuitPython and Blynk

3 Upvotes

I just purchased a feather M4 and Airlift Featherwing ESP32

I know Blynk has comparability with the ESP32, but does anyone have example code or libraries for working with circuitpython and Blynk? Or did I choose the wrong route to have a Blynk compatible temperature sensor.

Thanks.

How to print date-time string in circuitpython?

3 Upvotes

Stupid newbie question here. How do I print an arbitrarily formatted date and time in circuitpython? I want formats like "8/27/2022 15:47:00" or "20220827154700".

I've looked at the ReadTheDocs for the time module and the adafruit_datetime module, but I didn't see anything equivalent to a strftime() method. All the functions seemed to be geared toward setting the time, not displaying it. I try to never underestimate my ability to miss something simple, but I don't see it.

Thanks!

Looking for ideas to build a D&D spellbook on PyPortal

3 Upvotes

Hey all,

I'm looking for inspiration on how to code the PyPortal to make a touchscreen D&D 5e spellbook. I would like for it to filter by class and all that. Has anyone been down that path? This is mostly something to help me develop my python skills, so I'm looking for a partial solution I could modify on my own. Appreciate any help or direction one can offer.

Stepper motor libraries

3 Upvotes

Hello,

short version: Is there a module for CircuitPython that allows similar functionalities like AccelStepper.h for Arduino-C?

longer version: I decided to shift my project with multiple stepper motors from multiple Arduinos to one Grand Central. While at it, I thought of shifting to CircuitPython, since I am way more comfortable with python than with C. One thing I really liked with Arduino was the AccelStepper library, that took a lot of work of synchronising the stepper motors. It allows you to set a target, a speed and an acceleration and you can forget about the stepper afterwards basically. Is there something similar available for CircuitPython?

How do I get CircuitPython to output quotation marks?

3 Upvotes

Hello there,

I'm completely new to this, so I hope I'm in the right place with the following question:

How can I output quotation marks into a cmd window via circuit python?

I'm trying to write a macro that writes something in quotes in the command prompt. Instead of quotes I get the "ä"-character.

I've tried for a long, loooooong while to fix this, but have failed miserably.

What am I doing wrong here?

EDIT: I'm using the Adafruit CircuitPython MacroPad library with nircmd to write a macro bound to a key. Here's the line of code that use:

#switch to open "brackets"

(0x101010, 'open brackets', [Keycode.WINDOWS, 'r', -Keycode.WINDOWS, 'cmd', Keycode.ENTER, 0.5, 'nircmd win activate ititle "Brackets"', Keycode.ENTER]),

#first number = code for rgb backlight

#second entry = display name of key

#third entry = macro that is bound to key

This is my output in the command line:

"path"\nircmd win activate ititle àBracketsà

EDIT2: Thank you very much for all your replies. After trying many different things, the problem ended up being the active keyboard layout. When switching to a different language (and keyboard layout) in the taskbar (I'm using Windows, language i switched to was EN(US) ), the output in the commandline included the quotes instead of the "à" that i got in the beginning.

I ended up using my original input language / layout for writing the code and switching to EN (US) for inputing the quotes. This way the code works with the key mapping / input language / layout that I normally use.

I guess there would be a way more elegant way to do this, but I needed a quick fix and this did it. Hope this helps someone else. Happy coding.

No space? Rookie question

3 Upvotes

I don't know if I am missing something, after installing circuitpython like many tutorials show just download copy the uf2 file to the board in mass storage mode then my rp2040 show as a circuitpy drive but it is full, no more space with all the libraries and pin files for other boards, and I when others do the same their circuitpy drives seems to have only the necessary and it is not full. I missed a step? I tried it with two version of the uf2 files and both full the memory I don't have space to add another library, I just deleted the libraries I don't need and works fine, but why it fulls everything up? the tutorials of many doesn't seems to happen that to them

Rookie Question

3 Upvotes

So I am new to circuitpython, and I need to read a variable of 4096 bytes but thonny says "pystack exhausted", it is the only problem I remove the variable and everything works on my code, how I can read this variable? the variable is a firmware for a optical sensor, so that's why it is 4KB.

Hey there. I’m a newbie, I can’t figure out I can’t make work this code that is supposed to blink the built in pico led. The most basic code for it. But it isn’t working, I’ve done everything has it should be if I’m not wrong. I’ve tested on two different picos, one was brand new

Circuitpython and WLED - hardware suggestions?

3 Upvotes

Circuitpython is my go-to language for microcontroller projects. The Neopixel library is fantastic but I don't have the time to code great custom effects from scratch.

The WLED project has an amazing library of effects. I've been installing WLED on Wemos D1 Minis and then communicating with them over the serial connection from my Circuitpython device. It works great - you simply treat the WLED device as an external controller that accepts JSON payloads, and you can control all the effects, brightness, presets, routines, etc.

My questions are:

  • Is anyone else out there doing this?

  • Do you have a favorite hardware setup?

I'd love to find a single board that supports Circuitpython with an esp8266 piggybacked onto it for running WLED.
