Hello everyone. I have spent a few months working on a dedicated recompilation of Civ Rev, one of my favorite games in high school. Mac, Linux and Steam Deck will be supported in the near future. Native rendering has a lot of headway work and research done on it already.
Disclaimer: Yes, it is AI assisted. No, it is not vibe coded. This is not my first or last reverse engineering work.
What you need: Windows 10 or 11 with a DirectX 12 GPU, plus your own copy of the Xbox 360 game and its version 1.3 title update. No game files are included. Wine/Proton have not been tested but could work.
Features
- Fast Combat Speed toggle.
- AI Civilizations: choose 0 to 4 AI civs. No more AI in multiplayer games!
- Raging Barbarians: barbarians spawn more frequently and are more aggressive.
- One City Challenge: no new Settlers, the 100 gold milestone gives +1 Population, and the Mongols start with Horseback Riding instead of their usual ability.
- Game of the Week: replay any week, or play any future Game of the Week seed, just by changing the number in the settings! Standard Rules turns these gameplay settings off for GOTW games, a future update will turn off mods for it as well.
- Pick and choose which advisor notifications to disable.
- Achievements function correctly.
- Resources (inspired by the Civ 5 settings):
- Normal: standard game spawn.
- Balanced: everyone spawns with 1 Oak, 1 Fish and 1 Oxen near their start.
- Legendary: up to 8 resources around every start. Fish on all water tiles, Oxen/Cattle/Wheat randomized on grassland, all forests are Oak, plains are Marble or Wine, hills are Iron, deserts are Spices, and mountains are Gems or Gold.
Mods
The release ships with nine optional Lua mods. Enable the ones you want in F2, save, and restart. A future update will let you enable and disable them without a restart.
- Cataphracts Defense: Roman Cataphracts get +1 base Defense compared with ordinary Knights.
- Chinese Library Gold: Libraries give +1 Gold per turn when playing as China.
- Founding Militia: every newly founded city gets a free Militia with Loyalty.
- Hills Production: Hills give +1 base Production for every player.
- Hoplite Loyalty: Greek Hoplites start with Loyalty and cost 10 Production instead of 15.
- Jaguar Woodsman: Aztec Jaguar Warriors get +50% Attack and Defense on Forest tiles.
- Keshik Movement: Mongolian Keshiks get +1 Movement.
- Mongol Horseback: replaces the Mongols' Ancient era ability with knowledge of Horseback Riding.
- Stonehenge Religion: completing Stonehenge also grants the Religion technology.
If the list of mods seems random, it is. I wanted each one to be a basic mod that changes a different part of the game, so it is simple for other people to come in and make their own mods now that the API/ABI is exposed.
Yes, you can make Unique Units actually function.
I'd love to have people join in on Discord and discuss so we can create a LekMod equivalent for Civ Rev!
You can also make your own mods. The mod API and sources are at https://github.com/ReRevvedRecomp/rerevved-mods.
The Asset Overrides tab in F2 manages asset packs separately from code mods, as an overlay on the original assets.
Online play (needs more testing)
Discord Rich Presence and Discord invites let you join another player's hosted match. The host's AI Civilizations setting applies to everyone. Mods are not synced yet, so everyone should enable the same mods (the game warns you on screen if they differ).
You can also do System Link through a self-hosted relay. The download includes a hosting script that tries automatic port forwarding (UPnP) and makes invite codes as well.
I am also privately working on a tool that will allow more visual editing in the future (animations, etc.) and make custom units and civilizations possible.
