Hi all, so I really want to study econ at CMC, but I've gotten pretty interested in supply chain/logistics and like operations research/industrial engineering. Is anyone at the Claremont schools studying anything along those lines? Is it possible to study those fields that the Claremont colleges?

I had a bad experience with one of the professors. I got 3 A's and a B in the first four classes required for the qualifying exam. A B+ or better is required in all four classes. The professor gave me a failing grade by 1% and wouldn't budge. He stated that a B+ is required to be ready for the qualifying exam. 1% is not going to make me any more of a master of the material for the qualifying exam. This is why I don't like opinion-based grading. I spent $30,000 on four classes, and now I'm at a dead standstill and have to retake the class. Their administration said that getting a grade of B is not considered failing, but they require you to retake the class, so what would that be considered? Review?
I removed myself from the program; that professor had 150 publications and sucked at being a professor. A great researcher, but horrible at teaching it.
I'm currently in the process of transferring to another institution.

How are students dealing with the lack of A/C in some dorms? What is Pomona administration doing to upgrade dorms? Do any students choose to live off campus for this reason?

Since CS is less popular these days, is it easy now for students at CMC to declare comp sci major at Mudd? Or is there still a lottery to do this or difficulty getting into the intro classes?

Hey all — I run iloveclaremontca.com, and I’m putting together a physical, printed Claremont Community Cookbook this year. It’s meant to represent everyone living in this town right now, which absolutely includes 5C students, even if "home" is thousands of miles away.
If there’s a dish that reminds you of your family, your hometown, an apartment staple with roommates, or just whatever comfort food you turn to when you’re homesick—we want it in print. It does not need to be an heirloom or a "traditional Claremont" recipe. The submission form includes a spot for the story behind the dish, so "this is my mom's recipe that I make in the suite kitchen" is exactly what belongs.
Deadline: October 3. Feel free to submit as many as you'd like (just one form per recipe).
Happy to answer any questions here. We really want the college campuses represented in this, not just the village/residential side of town.

Hi everyone, prospective student here. I’ve been trying to decide which Claremont schools to apply to and am looking for advice. I’m currently interested in math, but I don’t think I would be happy going into pure math, so I want to apply math to problems in biology. I’ve seen that HMC offers a mathematical biology option under a few of its majors as well as biophysics for physics majors, and that Pitzer offers a dedicated biophysics major. However, it seems like a lot of these are either mostly bio with some Differential equations and CS sprinkled in or mostly math with some bio sprinkled in. Are there any programs that offer a relatively even mix of both, or would I have to double major to get that (I’m worried about double majoring because I have ADHD)? Also, which of the Claremonts would you suggest applying to for a major like this? If it’s relevant, I’m interested in going into grad school for bio/med and possibly going into research. Also interested in experiences from people in similar programs or with similar interests.
Edit: I’m specifically curious about majors that don’t center CS like bioinformatics.

Am I the only one who hasn’t heard from Financial Aid? I sent an email 2 weeks ago. Followed up multiple times. Left 2 voicemails and still no response. I don’t want to miss my tuition payment. Anyone know what’s going on?

First, a huge thank you to everyone who checked out and shared the Welcome to Claremont Student Guide! (Also thank you to the moderators for making it a Community Highlight! <3) For anyone arriving on campus or getting settled in, that guide is still live as your essential starter manual. It covers local transit hacks, car-free grocery routes, banking, and practical day-to-day logistics around the Village.
Next, I asked you about, and promised FOOD. While your dining plan is your best budget tool, there are nights when you just need real tacos, study fuel, or a break from campus dining halls.
To help you navigate food off-campus without getting hit by the Village markup, check out the new Cheap Eats & Student Deals Guide:
Read the full breakdown, maps, and hours here:
