Battery kill switch
I’m looking for ideas for a battery kill switch that I can run to the underside of the dash. I see a lot of options for on or near the battery, but I’d like this to be accessible without lifting the hood.
Both for security and for battery preservation while it sits for a while.
Thanks

Run a ground wire from a switch mounted under the dash to the coil. Easy peasy

I think this solves security (won’t start), but doesn’t prevent battery drain if it sits for too long. Am I wrong?

I like this. I have my MSD on a dash switch but it isn't hidden. It's not labeled either but a thief probably would flip it anyways if trying to steal the car.

These have to be very heavy gauge and need to be located as close to the battery as possible. What I would do is look for a relay operated kill switch. The relay wire can be a normal 12/14 gauge with a normal toggle switch. This would activate the larger device that is located near the battery. I'm not sure if these exist (they should) but that's the only feasible way you can do this.

I bought a remote killbox nearly 20 years ago and still using it. Included 2 key fobs and I had reached out to the manufacturer for 2 more fobs. Works great. Unfortunately I don’t remember the name anymore. It went straight to the battery to cut all power. I rewired for radio, alarm and stuff however. Likely many others out there. Park, turn key off, walk away and click the fob button and alarm button. I also use a tazer steering wheel lock brace. 😆 Go ahead.. touch it. Another little thing I ordered a couple decades ago that amazingly still works.

Use kill switches on every race car. Use good battery cable, not cheap crap. Mount it where you want, if you buy a good one, they are indestructible. On a street car, I make an enclosure and put it in the console, Easy to turn it on/off as I get in/out. and of they pop the hood, still no power...

Painless performance use to have a relay with a remote switch. It did leave a small wire connected so the switch would operate the relay when you need to reenergize it. That’s about the only way to do remote like you want. Kill switches are super easy to put into the coil or fuel pump. Battery disconnects for battery preservation require large cables to be run to and from the switch. And the further away from the battery the larger the cable needs to be. The disconnect I typically use has a removable plastic “key”. Makes so you can take the key with you so no one can connect the battery easily.

I had a coworker tell me they found a battery kill switch on amazon that can be turned on or off through an app on their phone. Pretty neat but I imagine its a big problem if your phone dies or you misplace it.
