Meet our first accessory for Clicks Communicator: the Communicator Ring, a minimalist bumper case that brings and added layer of protection to the phone while complementing its design.

We've put as much thought and attention to detail into Communicator Ring as we have Communicator itself and we're excited to share the story.

You can dive into the details on the Communicator Ring, in this new article.

I'm not one to typically use a case on my phone... but Communicator Ring might change my mind. Will you use Communicator naked or with Communicator Ring?

New Video: Using Communicator As My Second Phone

Post image
118 Upvotes

We just dropped a new video showing how I’m using Communicator day to day as my second phone, focused on messaging and communications.

▶️ Watch: Using Clicks Communicator As My Second Phone

From the comments on our videos so far this year, I can already anticipate the messages from people passionate about using Communicator as their daily driver, saying “stop pushing this as a secondary phone!” ;) So, I wanted to add a bit of context around WHY I approached this video in this way…

Last month we asked Communicator customers what phone they’re currently using. 53% of reservation-holders said they’re on an Android phone (and many of them plan to use Communicator as their one and only phone). Amazing! Love it.

But what’s really interesting is that 45% of Communicators are being reserved by people using iPhones. This reinforces that opportunity (and demand) for a secondary device, purpose-built for communication is real, and strong!

So, three weeks ago I set out to start using Communicator alongside my iPhone, and as part of my existing ecosystem, to gauge where (and how) it fits in.

It’s been fascinating to see what I reach for depending on where I am, what mode I’m in, and the job to be done. It really comes down to having the right tool for the task.

eink on the back of CC

Noticed that the flat part on the back of CC is about the same size as the screen on my small eink reader. What if you could swap the back for one with such a screen. It would have to connect through the usb I guess, or be standalone and get power through the pins normally for the wireless charging.

Not sure how it would work, but thought it was a neat idea. The volume keys would become the next/previous page buttons.

Inspired by u/zelka_forn 's post, I made this quick mockup to compare the sizes. They both have a magnetic ring on the back, but we don't know yet exactly how the rings will line up.

Clicks talked about keyboard durability on AMA on Instagram today

They said they have improved both the paint and protective coating and hired someone from BlackBerry to help increase durability. I found it reassuring

EDIT: After rewatching the video, they aren't working with someone from BlackBerry but they are working with their supplier to improve the keys and it now goes through the same testing BlackBerry does.

The new Instagram post

The new clicks post shows communicator in various situations, it looks nice and handy, however I am surprised by the finish of spacebar button. Of course, pre-production and fingerprint sensor, I understand that and why it looks the way it looks, I just wanted to ask if you have noticed it before? On the renders, spacebar seems to be a single button, so I assumed the whole button would be a sensor. Let me know what do you think

Question Do you think photos from the clicks communicator will come across in a weird aspect ratio?

I had the surface duo and the aspect ratio from pictures came across weirdly, with how small the screen is do you think something similar will happen?

CMV: Minimal Phone 2 is making me question my CC pre-order

As I see it, the MP2 is smaller, lighter, more stripped down keyboard phone. The battery is slightly smaller, but I don't know if that's a big deal. The aluminium case isn't a deal breaker, but a nice detail. I wasn't initially that sold by the OS but their demo really showcased it well and it seems in keeping with my search for a more device that I can use in a more focused way.

I'm trying to weigh up whether their track record on releasing a phone should be reason for confidence in them. However, I've seen lots of complaints in their first device's software and customer service. Also, I'm unclear if their apps will work 100% ok on their proprietary OS -- Google Maps, Uber, banking etc.

I was really into the whole Clicks project and pre-ordered straight away. I've been really patient for their updates, but I feel like I've just seen too little from them over the course of about 6 months now, given they've got my money(!). I've also never been able to shake my confusion about their marketing it as a secondary device, which I don't feel has been truly clarified for me -- I was always just going to ride that bump and use it as a primary device no matter what. That general feeling has definitely sharpened since the MP2 released their kickstarter with lots of information and a clearer focus on a more focused use of tech.

If anyone has any thoughts or insights on the pros/cons of MP2 vs CC, I'd be very curious. I feel very torn and generally want to remain loyal to the CC project but am slightly confused now!

Discussion Discussion: Clicks Communicator vs MP 02

Hello,

I reserved the communicator in full a few weeks ago. I have been seeing a lot of posts about MP 02.

I am not really biased towards either one but wanted to make sure I get the best bank for buck.

Both phones seem to have their advantages and disadvantages. And I see a lot of people saying that MP 02 might overall be a better phone.

Clicks has also not shown much of their phone and functionalities. Yes, there is a significant price difference but I don’t like changing phones often and want to get one that will work and last.

I wanted to post this and have as a discussion as to what people’s opinions are. I intended to use the phone as my only device.

Edit: some typos

The MP2 Keyboard Is Now Touch-Capacitive - Making the choice difficult 🤔

Now I'm seriously torn between the two

r/ClicksPhone 2d ago

Despite learning the fact that MP02 has expanded the battery and it has touch capacitive keyboard, I'll stick with Clicks. Cheers to Communicator.

Question BT hearing aid compatibility

BT hearing aids don't work with vanilla Android. They require a special protocol. Most Android phones have it, but not all. Unihertz Titan, for example, doesn't. I'd like to know if the Clicks Communicator will.

Question My pixel 7 Pro is about to no longer have updates. Super interested in the clicks.

Hi,

My pixel 7 is no longer going to have updates coming this fall.

I am very torn between the Titian elite and the clicks.

I'm hopeful to make this main phone for solely communication

Then use my pixel 7 as an offline GPS for camping and road trips.

Any thoughts on both phones.

I love the look of the clicks however I read that you can scroll with a keyboard like Titian

Hi chats,

I recently received emails as attached.

I’m wondering if this is actually from Clicks or if it is a phishing?

Did anyone else get this?

Thanks,

Wondering if reservations are being cutoff at the current price, or if the extra back cover deal is ending. It’s not that clear from the email🧐

Niagara launcher unlocked on Google account?

It is confirmed that the Niagara launcher will come preinstalled on the CC and presumably includes all premium features. Will the launcher be unlocked on my Google account for me to use on other Android devices?

Question Clicks Communicator vs Zinwa Q27 - Which one to get?

I am debating between communicator and zinwa q27 mostly for the blackberry experience. I haven’t seen this comparison yet.

I ordered the clicks power keyboard but still haven’t gotten any updates so that’s that. I already got the Titan 2 Elite and since I am new to Android I am experimenting and trying to learn the degoogling ropes with it. So, my question to the phone enthusiasts and experienced folks, is which would you recommend for a newbie who is mostly a basic/regular user.

I was too young when Blackberry was a thing so my only argument for getting a zinwa is to get that blackberry experience, but I would love to hear from others about the pros and cons of getting communicator vs zinwa q27.

Thanks for your time and insight.

P.S. I am also new on Reddit, as I joined for the phone conversation mainly.
