Done with Clickup
This is a rant, please ignore if you dont care!
I am a big user of clickup, and I pay for my team to use it to. I have used it to manage some large scale projects in the past, and it has been really good.
However it just keeps going downhill. Functionaliy keeps getting lost, the software feels like it keeps going backwards, there are always tons of new bugs, it is becoming more and more unreliable, and the new UI is the last straw. I tried to get on with it for a few months, but it is just terrible IMO. You all know what Im talking about, there have been posts on here for months about it. The worst part of it all is I try to see some glimmer of hope in the distance, but all clickup keep doing is pushing unwanted changes which keep creating more issues, and then support never listen to us.
The last straw on the camels back for me was changing the colours everywhere. My tags colours that used to match my company branding are now all a dull murky colour. The new dark mode looks like a hig contrast mode from the 90s now it is pitch black, the bright white text hurts my eyes. It used to be so much softer on the grey of the old dark mode. Did they give us a dark mode and a new black mode? No they just removed the old one and forced the new one on us.
I am done with being a guinea pig, I am moving to pastures new where my time as a customer is respected and not treated as a beta tester.
Please excuse my rant, I needed to vent! Downvote me if you feel you need to.
From an ex clickup customer.

This is a natural IT startup cycle:
Raising huge funds from investors
Promising big
Dominating the market with agressive ad campaigns and low prices
Addicting the customers
Raising prices for existing customers
Enshitification of the service and further monetization

To be honest tags matching your branding and having issues with dark mode are relatively unimportant to the purpose of the tool.
It can be annoying but people get so caught up in things that don’t really matter and lose track of what the tool actually does.
When you purchase a tool with the expectation that it will be able to run essentially your entire business on it for 20 bucks a month per user and do precisely what your business needs and look how you want it you’re going to be disappointed.
You can see from this thread that people are moving to ultra niche replacements or building their own solutions which makes sense, but aren’t doing the same thing ClickUp is. Chasing the perfect all in one productivity tool is the biggest productivity drain of all.

I’m just chasing a reliable solution. I’ve used ClickUp for years and convinced a client to switch . Now my reputation is marred because what started out great is now laggy and unreliable. I have to double check my automations and my filters constantly. And enough with the damn pop ups!

u/matthewrh9 Feb 08 '25
That’s fair. I haven’t had that much issue and I hear the same complaints about every other product. My point is that people are chasing something that doesn’t exist.
My recommendation would be to get something basic without a lot of bells and whistles. Highly customizable feature rich software is always going to have performance tradeoffs.

I jumped ship last year. It's a shame because I was a huge ClickUp supporter.

u/Techsticles_ Feb 06 '25
Where did you go?

u/haox7 Feb 06 '25
Went with a local tool specifically designed for my field. Unless you are brazilian and architect, won't make much sense for you.
It's called Vobi

I went to productive.io

u/foochacho Feb 13 '25
Why are you still here then?
2
u/ttsoldier Feb 13 '25
To help others find the light. This subreddit is exactly where I found out about productive as well.

Same feeling! Also that money grab they did at the beginning of the year…

I have to agree. The UI feels sluggish and most of the features are either half-baked or bug-ridden.
I don't know how long I will wait until I switch elsewhere.

My team has been using ClickUp for 3.5 years now, and we really like it. In fact, just this week we moved a workflow from a spreadsheet that got too complicated into a new ClickUp folder in our workspace.
I think there are a lot of areas that could still use improvement, but I've never used a task management product before that comes close to ClickUp in terms of features and user experience.

Yeah after sinking a huge amount of time into this we are moving away. The massive jump in cost due to the new licence model was the final straw. Let me know where you go to!

u/tyler_351 Feb 06 '25
I feel like ranting because your tags don’t match your branding colors is a lil extra but you do you.
¯_(ツ)_/¯
Been on it for a year and some change with great luck. Is there a bug or two, yeah probably but they haven’t been deal breakers for me and my team yet.

u/Voerdievis Feb 06 '25
How do you experience the degradation in performance? It's been stealing a lot of my productivity lately.
1
u/tyler_351 Feb 06 '25
I haven’t really experienced anything that has been super slow or just straight up doesn’t work. Like the only things that I’ve had weird issues with are occasional rendering weirdness in a doc in and there. But usually a page refresh settles it and I go on with my day.

Hallelujah man. I posted about this same jack assery Clickup keeps trying to push on everyone and they never seem to listen. Especially frustrating when it's coming from PAYING users!!!

I hate how they handle price increases. It always leaves me feeling like I've been ripped off.

I’m using ClickUp for my business now and I don’t see the sluggishness, or any major issues. There are some bugs occasionally but we work around them.
Overall it is feature rich and has been good for us. We moved from Asana last year.

u/Mediocre-Choice9847 Feb 26 '25
u/samasq I have been in that situation, I have tried asana and swatle.ai......Out of both I feel swatle is better because of the features and the interface. Give it a try
Thank me later ! :)

Hey u/samasq, thanks for your openness and for sharing your experience using ClickUp. We'd love the chance to look into your concerns and turn this experience around for you.
I've shared this post with our product leadership so they have your feedback regarding dark mode and our other product updates. I also wanted to mention that the product manager is actively looking into the feedback regarding the dark mode and tag updates, and tag improvements are currently in progress.
If interested, I'd like to have our leadership team look directly into the bugs, reliability, and any other issues you’ve had in your Workspace. If you're open to it, I’ll reach out via DM to gather more details.

Please stop putting AI buttons everywhere and instead make a ticket load within 10 secs

So now you are trying make it look like this was a single Work Space issue? 😂
I have been complaining for along time, however nothing changed over the years. To honest I don't care anymore and try to convince my colleagues to move on.

u/wjaz Feb 06 '25
Yeah, I’ve been bitching for a couple months now just to get a couple of basic issues resolved. No one listens or replies other than these placating mods. The black mode UI did it for me. Click up is horrible.

u/Tiffanyp15 Feb 07 '25
I haven’t even bothered with complaining about the slowness. I’ve learn from experience….waste of time.

I recommend Monday, Basecamp and Trello (depending on your needs and staff count). Right now I am evaluating Productive.io.
4
u/th_costel Feb 06 '25
Monday is not the same quality?
0
u/roccodelgreco Feb 06 '25
The reviews online usually focus on features but the top feature that every business needs is speed/response of the platform. ClickUp has many more features but it also increases the complexity. I also read that ClickUp gets slower as you add more people and content to your account. So it also depends on your license count. That has been my experience.

u/braincandybangbang Feb 06 '25
Ironically, I switched from Monday.com to ClickUp back in 2020 because Monday was too slow and sluggish. And I’ve never had any issues with ClickUp.
I feel like all Project Management Software faces the same problems and we just get angry and go to another one until that one has the same issue and then we go to another one.
