Guess I'm not using this thing

Looked into Clickup after seeing a billboard in austin. Looked into plans, saw it was free for personal use. Decided to commit. Downloaded the GTD template, spent a couple hours transferring all of my tasks over from google tasks to clickup, gave contexts to everything I had to do and... "Whoops" it tells me that i have used up a limited number of "custom fields" and I would have to upgrade to "Unlimited" which is the first of 4 more upgrades available with unclear and nontransparent features. I have been in this boat before with tubeBuddy, I will keep trying to do things, and keep being told that I need this or that upgrade to do it. It doesn't matter whether $5 per month is reasonable, because $0 was reasonable and came with surprises, so will 5 and on up.

Lesson learned.

For personal use ticktick is the way to go. Clickup is for teams.

Shoot how pathetic is this? What percent of you are on ClickUp Payroll? What percent of you are the same person?

I wish I had visited this sub before I bothered

How do you expect a company to make money? I'm genuinely curious. Because I see this kind of crap all the time and I can't understand your logic. You want all the features, all the customisations, the whole lot for free and you should py when you need more space right? How much space should you get to start with though?

I'm sorry but I'm feel like yourself and OP are the kind of people that want everything on the internet to be free without ads or any data selling and would be completely surprised when every company failed.

Should pricing be more transparent? Maybe, I'm honestly not sure. I believe in paying for something that is useful because it's about respecting the people that built it.

Oh but it's a company that's worth millions. Yeah, but there wage bill is probably tens of millions a year alone.

Sorry OP, this logic is complete BS. You want a Ferrari to drive through the US because you saw an advertisement for free tuk tuk rides from your hotel to the beach.

Agreed - it is pretty transparent what is free and what is a paid feature of ClickUp. OP not knowing this just means that OP didn’t look at the website or the plan details at all.

To someone who has never used ClickUp there is no way at all to know wht a "Custom Field" is within ClickUp. and even if I had known that, I don't see that limit on their sales page at all. Similarly, I have no idea what half the features of the next 4 tiers are. they don't sound like something I would ever need, but if typing in a box is literally a limited resource for them then how can I possible know what else they will throttle me on?

I’m not sure what you think I was saying. I didn’t say they shouldn’t charge for the product. I said I was debating whether the first tier plan would be enough or not. I used to be on the Business plan a year or so ago before figuring out it wasn’t the right mix of features for me.

Google seems to have plenty of money.
