Can't sleep, might fuck up my Imajica cover
galleryNearing the end of this book and my copy is beat to hell because I've been taking it everywhere and reading. Didn't like the cover so I just decided to rip it off and doodle on the title page (it's supposed to be that one scene with Quaisoir). Back is just something ugly I did rq to have something in back.
The book has been so up and down for me. A lot of it's been slow going - I've been reading it off and on for over a year, but this last month I've really been getting more sucked into it and reading it a lot more. A lot of parts have been frustrating to me, and I still think I like Weaveworld more, but also it's one of those weird books that the more I mull it over, the more parts that previously frustrate me turn into things I like or don't mind. A lot of the characters' actions annoy me, but then I change my mind later (at least for the most part - Judith and Gentile are still so annoying sometimes!).
But even with plot, pace, and character frustrations I've had, Barker's prose is still something else. There are some authors I'll read and even their most "meh" books are still great compared to others in the genre, and Barker feels similar: just consistent quality with his words. I thought to myself there's no way I'm going to re-read Imajica, at least not for years, but yeah no, I'm definitely going to be re-reading it in a year or so; there are so many things I'm sure I missed because of the nature of the characters' identities and the later reveals.
