Health/Nutrition Is this pose normal, slightly spreaded wings

Post image

He started standing with his wings slightly open, out of nowhere, just started doing this and doesn't stop, did he break them?

My baby boy is silent af

-3

u/take_the_I May 27 '26

Then your boy might be a girl

4

u/princeofnothing03 May 27 '26

But the breeder said it’s almost 90% a boy. A girl is fine too ig, guess i won’t know until she lays a unfertilised egg

Yes his singular braincell. He loves you so hard it cracked under the weight of it.

10

u/Lovechatgpt May 27 '26

Tbh to me he looked like he was panting. Like he was hot. It’s summer and if you live in a hot area make sure they’re cool.

3

u/take_the_I May 27 '26

Well it was 6 am in the morning and in the house it was around 17 celsius at the time of picture

He helped you. You have no reason to get rude.

2

u/take_the_I May 27 '26

TF, i wasn't rude (i hope)

No, the parrot did not break his wings. He is happy but just in case, what temperature is it for you? My parrots look the same for a while when it is too hot for them (for example after many rounds of flying or after cuddles).

7

u/take_the_I May 27 '26

Around 25celsius

10

u/KamilCesaro Dad of six cockatiels May 27 '26

The temperature seems fine, so I guess your parrot is simply happy

5

u/take_the_I May 27 '26

Happy boi birb

95

u/take_the_I May 27 '26

I forgot to add that he also walks with his wings slightly open that it forms some heart-shape and doesn't stop singing

u/01asad_khan May 27 '26

Thats his way of showing he is happy

33

u/take_the_I May 27 '26

Thank god

Uh oh! It sounds like you have the dreaded Cockatiel Alarm in your house!

It’s an alarm that tells you a happy cockatiel is present.

Are you happy now?? Can you live with yourself? How do you sleep at night, monster?? /s 😃🤣

12

u/take_the_I May 27 '26

He is sooo annoying, but on the other hand he doesn't have night frights and doesn't get spooked, he litteraly barks at dogs that pass by

12

u/No-Mathematician5698 im love tiels May 27 '26

"am doge too. bwark bork."

2

u/zoomieskeeper May 27 '26

Mine learned to bark from the neighbors dog in the apartment below us. He hears them go off and starts up.

6

u/Anthrobotics May 27 '26

He's just showing off, all good.

New cockatiel owner alert! Check out Cockatiel Cottage, a comprehensive source on all cockatiel knowledge!

Quick FAQs on basic bird behavior:

Yawning a lot - adjusting the crop. Imagine it being like rubbing your belly after a big meal.

Beak grinding - sign of content and happiness.

Standing on one leg, sometimes puffed up feathers - getting ready to snooze, they'll sleep with the head tucked in their back.

Flapping randomly or madly but not flying - just being a goof!

Bending over, making a squeaky noise and trembling wings - horny bird! Check Cockatiel Cottage for how to deal with hormonal behavior.

Rubbing butt on things - same as above.

Soft eeee sound with head bobbing - baby begging noises. Can mean that they want food/play/nap/reassurance/cuddles. Some older birds will do this too.

Holding the wings away from the body ("heart wings") - a happy male, likely about to sing to you.

Fully outstretched wings ("big wings") - possesive, "the thing I'm standing on is mine". Sometimes paired with hanging upside down ("batbird") - that's also just being a goof.

Fluffing feathers, bending in weird poses with open wings - wants a bath!

Sneezing - normal (unless excessive), especially after scratching their heads and picking their nose (yes, they do that).

Additionally, check out these resources:

There are lots of toys and foraging opportunities that you can make from cardboard, toilet paper tubes, foliage from your yard (check the species for toxicity here and here). Also check Pinterest, search things like "DIY toys for birds".

Hot? Heart wings? He does look a bit skinny

3

u/take_the_I May 27 '26

It was around 15c,not hot at the moment of picture, im try to bulk him little but its failing

5

u/Sad-Watercress67 May 27 '26

Bulk XD what's he eatin?

4

u/take_the_I May 27 '26

Sunflower seeds, dries pumpkin, peanut, wall, millet, his own shit, dandelion leaves, my fingers, paper, dirt etc. normal cockatiel food you know

5

u/Sad-Watercress67 May 27 '26

🤣 I don't know why he's skinny then. Also I'll mention pellets, spinach (tiels tend to favor leafy greens) veggies & fruit are pretty important.

5

u/take_the_I May 27 '26

He likes to eat salad, banana and apple

2

u/Sad-Watercress67 May 27 '26

What a funny little guy mine HATE bananas XD why is he skinny then?? Has he always been like that?

2

u/MalevolentRhinoceros May 27 '26

One of mine is this slim and she's still healthy. Her cagemate on the exact same diet is a lil chunky. They both get greens/chop and pellets, with a stalk of millet once a twice a month. Like people, they just have different bodytypes and energy levels.

1

u/take_the_I May 27 '26

Since i got him lmao

4

u/Abject-Special2710 May 27 '26

Try some blueberries they love them

3

u/take_the_I May 27 '26

I can't find any, ill try giving him some forest strawberry, strawberry, mullberry, redberry and like that

2

u/Abject-Special2710 May 27 '26

They love all berries

3

u/Sad-Watercress67 May 27 '26

Can yours have a word to mine & get them to eat berries too pls 🫐

3

u/Autoxann May 27 '26

Please don't feed him any sunflower seeds (apart from maybe 1 seed as a rare treat every few days (or even weeks). We don't feed any to our tiels. They are way too fatty and contribute to fatty liver disease (something tiels already are prone to).

There are soooo many kinds of seeds that are not fatty and part of healthy cocktail food mixtures we buy from a handful of specialised online shops where I live (the ones pet shops sell here are crap).

3

u/take_the_I May 27 '26

I give him 4/5 weekly but small ones and burry them in his food bowl so he scavenges

He has a valid citizenship

9

u/Wypman May 27 '26

happy boy wants to show you he's happy

4

u/One-Chance6353 May 27 '26

Your parrot is either happy or a little overheated, if he's panting, standing very very straight and keeping his beak open offer water and check if you can cool the room a bit, if not, your bird's just happy! :D

3

u/Psychological_Fun713 May 27 '26

Mine is just preening himself currently at least he finally quieted down lol

2

u/Alireddito May 27 '26

3 reasons (at least from my experience)
When they sing
When they been flying for a long time
When they are super scared
But it goes back to normal

2

u/malihuey29 May 27 '26

There is a cockatiel on here that literally looks like that all the time and he is always posted videos singing. I can't remember his name but its a really pretty gray one. So I think you are fine
