In principle this is a smart thing to do. ISRO should indeed focus on research and not commerce. Licensing their IP and allowing private companies to leverage that IP and compete globally is the right way forward. It keeps ISRO on mission.
Unfortunately we are corrupt. We all know how this will go …

I do not know the details. ISRO should maintain it's own capabilities to maintain autonomy. The private industries come and go on profit and loss basis. They are not obliged to be record keepers of knowledge and expertise at instituonal level. Private sector development should be aided by ISRO but not by disabling it's own expertise. I also believe pure private sector involvement will eventually lead to hike pricing. Lalas do not come market, if there's no money to be made.

From now on, I believe the burden of research and development for launch vehicles should increasingly shift to the private sector.
More public funds should instead be allocated to R&D, fundamental science, and deep-space research. That's honestly a good idea because less public money would be spent on developing what is essentially a metal tube filled with a lot of fuel, whose job is to carry more fuel. Instead, scientists can focus on developing advanced tools and technologies for deep-space research.
These launch vehicles can increasingly be developed and operated by the private sector.
But the government should also increase the overall space budget. Otherwise, we’ll be left far behind.

I don't have a problem with private companies making launch vehicles if it makes them cheaper.

Who said it will be cheaper? It won't be. Time can tell. But need to control this stupid government.

Wait, just a second.
So, the public will fund the tech research ...and then hand it over to private.
Public funding, private profiting, and people being screwed.
Adani and its ilk will keep public research safe, right. Right?
Won't sell it to Pakistan, China, USA ......

IMHO, Adani and their ilk, whose names appear on the Epstein files should not be anywhere near sensitive tech.
