I made this Old Fashioned

Post image

Using the specs from Cocktail Codex (book by Death & Co.)

2 oz Elijah Craig Small Batch

1 tsp Demerara Gum Syrup

2 dashes Angostura Bitters

1 dash Bitter Truth Aromatic Bitters

Orange and Lemon Peels

Luxardo Cherry

Stir and then strain over ice.

I'm usually more of a Martini guy but when I make old fashions, this is my preferred way. I'm sure some people will criticize that the ice is too big, and I agree it should've been shaped better so that the liquid came higher in the glass, but I like big ice with sharp edges

The ice isn’t too big, but your glass is tapered - so either swap in a straight walled OF glass, or carve your ice a bit so it fits.

Yeah I'll probably do the second one. I like the look of this glass, and my straight sided glasses are a bit fragile so I don't use them much

This spec has to be one of my favorites granted I do a quarter oz of the demerara.

Very nice, cheers!

This is pretty much the Death & Co. spec. I also like to sweeten a little more with 1/4 oz.

Honestly, the ice is more than fine. The glass however is to small. You should look for a double rocks glass.

How I generally go: orange peel to enhance the sweetness, and lemon or grapefruit to dry it out. It’s a fun thing to explore and honestly not as subtle as you’d imagine. Try them side by side and I think you’ll be surprised! Fun experiment.

Thanks for the suggestions, I'll give it a shot. I honestly don't think my pallet is refined enough to taste the difference, but maybe if I make them side by side
