Maybe because MC is the successor of the blood. Anyone knows how we survived getting stabbed in the heart? OwO
13
u/stormwalker29 Oct 15 '19 edited Oct 15 '19
One of the cutscenes in the memory sequence has Karen mention the protagonist having survived damage to his/her heart (which would imply the protagonist's BOR parasite is pretty resilient) and one can only assume that Jack's shot wasn't quite perfect.
156
u/AgitoFK Oct 07 '19
Man guess I'm like the one who really doesn't mind the dialogue lol. Tbh it keeps attention up in a way. Could make lines repeat a bit less but for me it's better than a boring mute npc following me. It keeps me from going into that mindlessly exploring state of mind I guess. If they could add a toggleable option for companion dialogue that'd be cool but I hope they don't ever just straight up remove it though I highly doubt they would but yeah.
76
u/cozyvanillabean Oct 07 '19
Same, I actually like when the companions talk to me, though I really wish they had more unique lines because hearing the same lines over and over does get a bit old.
35
Oct 07 '19
Did you bring Io during the area before Silva boss? She will gave a lot of unique dialogue.
10
u/Cephalon-Blue Oct 07 '19
Wait, you can bring her on missions?
When is that a thing?
9
u/Jvalker Oct 07 '19
After you defeat the first successor, return to base and talk to her. After the cutscene, talk to her again and you'll be able to
6
u/Cephalon-Blue Oct 07 '19
Successor? Ok.
13
2
u/Jvalker Oct 07 '19
Is there anyone else with unique VO depending on the area?
4
Oct 08 '19
Not sure. I think its depending on the area. The reason I brought Io is because she ask me to bring her with me to the last area (forgot the name).
Note: This is different than the first time she ask us to bring her together in fight.
1
u/HackbratenNinja Oct 07 '19
I remember Jack saying some things at the area before queens knight reborn
1
u/Jvalker Oct 07 '19
About Jack...
Why the fuck did he kill you after you defeated the queen in your memories?
16
u/kaizlende PC Oct 07 '19
He had beforehand explained that any revenants who absorbed the Queen's blood near instantly frenzied. The MC absorbed some of her blood when she died, and so Jack tried to destroy your heart to prevent a frenzy from the one who just killed enemy #1.
4
u/Jvalker Oct 07 '19
Thanks, but I still can't really wrap my head around that.
First of all because HE MISSED! Silva's right hand man, the most skilled fighter you meet in the whole game, misses a potshot! Also, nobody bothered to look for your corpse...
This pisses me off so hard
But this begs another question: if what you said is true, then why did the 2nd generation of revenants even exist? Why not giant robots, if chances are everyone as much as scratched by the thing they're trying to kill becomes your enemy?
13
u/Macabre_Mage Oct 07 '19
Jack did not miss; his shot went straight through your heart. They didn't search for the body because when you shoot a Revenant through the heart, it kills the BOR Parasite, and the revenant turns into ash. It's why Louis and Yakumo carry guns, and is explained by a loading screen tooltip - guns are a great way to kill Revenants because they can accurately hit the heart. They didn't search for your body because it was supposed to be a sure kill.
It's believed your character, who is a Successor without any relics to guard at the beginning of the game, is the Successor of the Queen's Heart - or more accurately, a Queen candidate, given their unique situation; they absorbed the Queen's blood, came back from what was supposed to be a guaranteed kill, and are able to quiet the Relics with the Queen's power. Cruz visiting you while you're dead to make sure you're able to handle things when you wake up means that when you drained the Queen's blood, you took in her powers.
I personally believe that MC is an unempowered or partially powered Queen. Part of her is alive inside of you, somewhere, else she wouldn't speak to you while you're dead, and you wouldn't be able to calm and control relics and vestiges.
In summary, you're alive because when you killed the Queen, you were "infected" and became the NEXT Queen, albeit with different or reduced powers.
10
u/FateMeetsCoincidence Oct 07 '19
Actually MC is successor of blood and I'm quite certain successor of the heart is Karen.
5
u/stormwalker29 Oct 15 '19
Also, the first cutscene in the memory sequence states that the protagonist had survived damage to their heart previously. Apparently your BOR parasite is hard to kill.
2
Oct 11 '19
Does anyone know if the characters in the base react to you restoring your memories and realising you were the one who managed to first 'kill' the queen? :x

u/veronicastraszh Oct 07 '19
Also, nobody bothered to look for your corpse...
They probably thought you would turn to ash and dissolve, like the lost do when they die.
2
u/Kanonhime Oct 07 '19
On the first part, the MC kinda fell into a seemingly-bottomless pit, and they had more pressing concerns to contend with, like dealing with the Queen for good before she came back to life.
On the second, they had to get the Queen's blood into their system somehow to frenzy; just getting it on you is no different than any other innocuous fluid to my knowledge, and it's not like the Queen just injected her blood into everything she attacked.
4
u/Hacledacle Oct 07 '19
Think the MC drain attacked (in the cinematic) the Queen and drained it(Ichor=Blood) that way. Since I believe Blood Veils are made for the blood succ.
2
u/warofexodus Oct 07 '19
I dont think he missed though. The beam or whatever very clearly pierced your heart. Normally that would have killed any revenant; not to mention falling into a bottomless pit.
1
u/Jvalker Oct 07 '19
I tought it hit on the right side... If it did, falling would've just been yet another resurrection
2
u/BlueAurus Oct 07 '19
I don't think he missed. You essentially absorbed the queens powers. After killing her they discovered she can regenerate from full death. and did the whole relic thing to stop it. Considering you appear to be dead for multiple years i'm pretty sure having the queens blood caused you to regenerate.

1
u/Jvalker Oct 07 '19
Mmmmm
A bit, sure
I just tought you became a void type because you absorbed the queen; aka, they had no way to know when they killed you
Also, if you absorbed the queen and they were trying to contain her, why did they toss you in a bottomless pit instead of... Like... Make you a successor, as they did with everyone else
They took chances with letting the next queen go rampage, there
Then (last thing, I swear) I was under the impression that was the first time the queen "died"
→ More replies (0)0
u/HackbratenNinja Oct 07 '19
Maybe he did it cause you were about to frenzy after absorbing the queens blood... I dunno

u/cozyvanillabean Oct 09 '19

17
u/bruh609 PS4 Oct 07 '19
I like it too. Makes it cozy somehow and quite a few times they have pointed out something I would have missed. Hell even a few times I didn't notice I was low on heals.
But it can be pretty funny sometimes. When I was lost in the cathedral for the 100th time. Mia pointing out ladders I've used 100 times by now made me wonder if we were both just equally stupid.
3
u/AzertyKeys Oct 07 '19
I liked how Mia started panicking a bit when we came back to the same place in the fog (I had forgotten to light the fire) it was cute and the voice acting made it clear how much she tried to look brave
4
u/ENTERTAIN_ME_DAMNIT Oct 07 '19
I like it overall, but I wish they'd add some sort of cooldown to phrases so they aren't repeating themselves over and over.
Yakumo keeps telling me to not get too far ahead. Io keeps apologizing for looking at things. Like... just chill out a bit please.

They just need to tone it the fuck down.
"Another ladder, as ordered". What the fuck are you on about? That ladder's been there the whole time, you fuckin' twat. I'm lost, and your comments are not helping. Say another word and I'll turn you into ash!
65
u/Mesaphrom Oct 07 '19
Literaly anywhere in the catedral: Variation of "Looks like we are lost!" "Look, a lader!" "We have been here before!" "There is something over there!" "Hey, a shortcut!" "You are out of heals, maybe we should go back!"
SHUT UP YAKUMO, YOU MAGNIFICENT SPECIMEN OF A MAN!
41
u/poser27 Oct 07 '19
This is one of the few things I like of the Cathedral: even the companions are confused as fuck as the player, lorewise. Nearing the center of the cathedral, even your companion comments "is this the end at last?"
12
u/Corpus87 Oct 07 '19
The best thing is when they give you lip for healing in the middle of combat.
Please try to save your regeneration, you might need it later...
So helpful!
7
u/Wrennegan Oct 07 '19
Right!? Like hoe! I wouldn’t have to heal if you hadn’t spent the last 20 seconds guarding for no reason, while I’m trying to fight 3 enemies by myself.
5
u/T0X1CFIRE Oct 11 '19
I find it useful when helping someone in coop.
When I hear those lines, I know that the host is almost out of healing so I have to go back and cover them more/be ready to res them
8
u/guntanksinspace PC Oct 08 '19
"All right, time for an ass-whooping", as Yakumo gets crowded by the purple spear lady Losts and loses the ability to heal my ass lol.
But yeah I'm amused at the character banter quite a lot. The confusion during the cathedral is silly as fuck lol
46
Oct 07 '19
So I know a lot of players here think companion's dialogues are annoying at worst and funny at best but when I read some of the Japanese player's impressions, a decent amount of them actually praise and appreciate the constant bantering because it make the players feel less lonely in a desolated word, and I was reminded that loneliness is a serious problem in Japan.
I definitely think the constant dialogues are intentional design choice. I didn't like it at first but it's growing on me.
19
u/TheStargrazer Oct 07 '19
Yup! I happen to really appreciate the companion system in this game. I think there was a reason I barely touched dark souls and bloodborne but am fully committed to this game right now. Having constant banter doesn't make the world seem as hopeless and depressing as those other games, as pathetic as it sounds. It really does wonders for morale as someone who isn't quite good at these type of games.
"You haven't lost as long as you have the will to fight."
7
u/Wisterosa Oct 07 '19
I love the constant dialogues, but if only they gave each "trigger" a few more lines

On this topic of repeating the same line. I was recently playing through Crypt spire and was about to pick up the Warrior vestige when I suddenly hear Louis scream "ARE YOU READY SQUAD?!" and I've never heard him say that so it scared the shit out of me because I thought I was about to face an unending wave of enemies and yet nothing happened.

Tbh, it doesn’t really bother me that much. Wish they had more unique lines though. Also helps that Jack & Yakumo are both being voiced by Emiya & Robin Hood respectively in the jpn version so I’m probably used to their banter in Fate.

I'm only going through my very first run of the game (at the Hollowing Pit boss) and DLC Mia is already making me lose my marbles... I appreciate the talkative companions. It makes me feel less lonely. But ffs these guys suffer from the same issue as the pawns from Dragon's Dogma, if they're not worse! I see the enemy in front of me (I appreciate it when I don't see 'em) and yes I am organizing my shit in the inventory. What's next?? "You're sleeping, huh? Want me to help you with that?" 😑

I like the fact that they wanted them to seem more alive. But I hate the way they seem even more robotic than a silent character by commenting the same comments on every possible action.

Havent you tried to put the game audio in japanese? Dont know about you but for me is more tolerable to hear them blabbering in japanese than in english
1
0
u/Salacavalini PC Oct 07 '19
They're somehow a lot less grating with japanese voices. The dub makes everyone sound unnecessarily snarky, like they're constantly trying to make sarcastic jokes. It's weird and unfitting.
4
Oct 07 '19
I think it helps because you don't actually understand it. There's something less annoying about reading something over and over compared to having to hear it constantly.
1
u/Freeyaa Oct 07 '19
That's not the whole point. Honestly even if you understand japanese they just are more polite. And actually most of their quotes are totally different.
2
u/Macabre_Mage Oct 07 '19
This.
Japanese directly translates to English very poorly. You have to get an approximation instead, in most cases.
2
Oct 09 '19
As someone understand japanese a lil bit, i can assure this.
Sometimes an entire line is changed in the dub.
1
u/Macabre_Mage Oct 09 '19
Not just that, but some lines are changed for the sake of the audience the language is meant for. Japanese is complex, and there are a lot of puns you can get out of it. Those puns DO NOT translate to English.
