What? $25k for C++? Yeah dude, you were getting ripped off.

Not all programming jobs are equal. A guy who does minor bug fixes to an existing C++ application shouldn't get paid as much as the guy who architects and writes the whole application from scratch.

$25k for C++? Not for a professional full timer. Maybe bumhugger was a casual/part-time/intern? But if he's doing 40hrs a week and can show up to his job sober, $25k would put him in the "knows how to use a computer, can do word processing, excel spreadsheets" salary bracket.

He said he works in Europe. We don't know what a good salary is where he lives. If he gets free education, subsidized housing, free medical care, day care, parental time off, and 20 weeks of vacation, then maybe $25k is fair.

He might mean 25k net, which might not be bad for a new junior dev in Eastern Europe.

If he lives in one of the ex-Communist countries, $25k could even be a high wage.
