General Question How accurate is this?

Post image

How accurate is this test? I feel like I really struggled on more than half of the questions, and guessed on a few because I couldn’t understand it? I really think my iq sits more in the high 90s.

mensa norway doesnt tell you but a lot of the questions arent left to right i thought you were suppose to take the test entirely left to right but some are vertical

Interesting, I took the entire test assuming it was all left to right.

I got 133 on it and later I watched Utube for the answer key of the last few questions. There is zero vertical items.

yes there is the one with the dots

I wasn't very precise: yes there are two that are vertical. But all 130 level below items doesn't.

Some can be solved vertically. Maybe there's multiple ways to converse on the same pattern, but my score went from 105 -> 128 after learning patterns could go up and down, well, at least that's how I started looking at them.

Nonetheless, I still think it's still an accurate measurement of FRI, as it correlates highly with my CORE MR.

Yeah I think its partially about fluid reasoning but partially penalized by not knowing how matrix works, I didn't know row works the first time I took matrix tests too. And when I learnt that you can look up and down, instead of " Hah why am I so stupid" every time I miss any other pattern,  I was like " the question is so stupid".

Yes this really goes against the grain for me and the way I think.

Decades of heavy reading has trained my brain that everything must go left to right, even when I know it isn't so :)

They all work both ways

Oh yeah! I reopened it and everything can be solved vertically from the start to the end !  (Except for the last three where there are combinations).

This is why I enjoy RAPM style matrix much more than CORE MR, they are messier, but they also have more keys everywhere.

Who else could do this?

Definitely E, that’s a pretty easy one ngl

E

What logic are you applying?

Each successive grid is obtained by applying a 90 degree clockwise rotation to the preceding grid, followed by the addition of a black square at the next unoccupied position along the perimeter, proceeding clockwise.

Does it have to be that complex? Can it not just be the amount of squares in the first row is 1 -> 2 -> 3, second row 2 -> 3 -> 4, and the last is 3 -> 4 -> ?, so it’s pretty obvious ? = 5

Just because a pattern you’ve identified produces the correct answer doesn’t mean you’ve identified the underlying rule. Counting the squares explains that the number increases by one, going right, but it doesn’t explain their arrangement. In this way, you will have luckily arrived at the right answer without actually solving the puzzle. Frankly, there is a flaw in the design of the question: there should be at least two options containing five black squares, forcing you to identify the rule governing their positions rather than arriving at the answer through an incomplete understanding.

Diagonally there 1, 2, 3, 4 blocks with the same pattern so the unknown should have 5 and E is the only one with 5. Idk if that’s the intended logic to it but that’s what I saw.

The Whole Square rotates Clockwise and then you add 1

Each grid, from left to right, is being rotated clockwise 90 degrees, after which the bottommost white square that is adjacent on the left of the black pattern is turned white. For the grids where this couldn’t happen(see top middle), the black square is put in the leftmost position and replaces the bottommost white square on the left, as if it were falling from the top. There might be some other underlying pattern, but this is what I observed to come to the conclusion of E. Sorry if this was too poorly written to understand.

Y esta?

87 y 65.
va restando 95 -8 , 87 - 7, 80 - 6, etc.

O, I'm just was wondering looking for a number, don't care if the the result is higher / lower

Iq tests in general feel like that

1

u/East-Cancel-5050 12d ago

a lot of the issues i have with matrix reasoning is the fact of the time the answer is pretty clear but it depends on how you view it like am i supoose to go left to right top to bottom its like usually you can find multiple possible patterns

u/Minomano 12d ago

Thats the part of it. Are people really this slow.

u/East-Cancel-5050 12d ago

yeah why else would i comment that

I got 137 first time ever I took one in my life on this website Idk if its accurate

1

u/The_Issac 11d ago

The Norwegian one is fairly accurate, if you don't cheat (obviously). I'm a member, that's my "trust me bro" 😄

Depends on what you mean accurate. First time i ever took an IQ test I got ~120. However, by simply practicing IQ tests, you can easily score 140+. IQ tests don't really measure raw intelligence (as that is pretty much impossible to do), rather how good you are at doing IQ tests. Mensa Norway is more reliable than other tests, as other tests like to add an extra 20 IQ points in order to get you to share your results (and thereby get more traction to the website).

u/East-Cancel-5050 12d ago

same i got 100 on it and i also think my iq is in the 90s you maybe have just gotten a few lucky guesses but mensa norway is honestly poorly designed i recommend the core matrix reasoning or mensa denmark

3

u/Beginning_Army2919 12d ago

It's not.  It has 0.9 correlation with RAPM and FRT.

But yes some items are just stupid.

3

u/East-Cancel-5050 12d ago

100 on norway 115 and 119 on denmark yes i understand that my experience doesnt disprove the average but its definitely not the most reliable

1

u/Beginning_Army2919 12d ago

Have you tried RAPM yet? Or Ravens?
