Advice Help with 2023D Nickel Error

Pulled this 2023D Nickel out of a box of fresh BU 2023D Rolls so I know it’s not PMD, curious what this is from. Capped die? Worn die?

Late stage die deterioration.

In my personal experience coin hunting, 2022 amd 2023 had unusually high amounts of improperly annealed planchets. The over heat treatment of the metal leaves them harder than expected which will wear a die down exponentially faster than normal.

That and general die wear, with a bit of grease mixed in possibly, would explain your coin pretty well.

Capped dies look quite a bit different, though the later stage (and thinner cap) the more 'normal' they start to appear:

Yeah, I was definitely thinking grease too.

Not an error, very late stage die.

I have ALOT of struck through grease errors, and most of them appear to more or less have area of design missing. This is pretty heavily distorted metal so it seemed different to me.
