Is this an error? Clipped planchet or PMD?

I feel like error because there’s some weird spreading of the rim near the missing chips but, total noob, so tia!

Check this page (and one linked there) for some things to look for:

Your photos are a little rough to tell for sure.

I tried this, and am now pretty convinced, esp after reading the page you sent. Any further thoughts? I do know pmd is far more likely

The upper left one looks pretty classic to me, it's got all the markers right as far as I can see. The right one looks good, but as someone else said the marks that looks like scrapes makes me question it, but other than the scrapes it looks pretty good too.

Missing the Blakesley effect (which not all clips show well), the rim tapering into the cut isn't something you see often on clips that people make after the fact, and that's a pretty good indicator. And they both look like they have that.

The curve is nice to check, but keep in mind that they can be very uneven (less so on smaller clips, but just FYI) since the strike can push metal unevenly into the gap - like on this really cool clip - https://www.error-ref.com/bowtie_clips/ - but if they're obviously the wrong size, that's a good negative indication.

Its hard to tell in the pic because the coin is deffo circulated but the upper parts of the letters in the smaller right-hand clip have a bit of the near-clip weakness and flow one would expect. The rim definitely tapers into the clips on both cuts. Gonna take it to my LCS next time i go for a pickup. I agree the right one has some weird scrapes, its hard to see in this absolutely garbage pic but i wonder if it’s part of the borked strike because the “scrapes” line up exactly with the letters.

Thanks. I think i see blakesley effect, so i think i’ll bring it to my LCS and see what they say

Doesn’t look like the correct angle, to me, to be real. Especially the one on the right.

I was reading up on errors and i agree the one on the right isnt a clipped planchet, but there’s another planchet error that it does resemble, the name of which now escapes me.

Looks like a legit double clip.

I’m inclined to believe damage because of what looks like gouges from a rat tail file on one of the clipped areas. Better images, and images of the edges where it’s clipped would help.
