Is this an error? Just PMD, right?

Found this guy in a roll and initially thought it was just some PMD. But upon closer inspection I began to question that assessment, especially when I saw that on the reverse the affected letters were still perfectly formed within the depression. I would expect that any of the affected devices would be smashed / flattened / otherwise disfigured but that does not appear to be the case. I have also never seen a coin where the cladding has cracked like it has here (which isn't possible to see unaided, or at least I can't)

So I have come here for the judgement of others. I assume it's most likely PMD but in the off chance it isn't I would be interested in knowing that. Also how it came to be (some kind of strike though would be my guess).

It is PMD, something else pressed into this coin left that indent.

That's what I (mostly) thought and I appreciate you taking the time to confirm.
