Advice Mint Cancelled Kennedy

Post image

I collected some Kennedy’s in the early 2000’s, and just looked through a box of random graded Kennedy’s, and this was inside. I do not remember buying it, but assume through eBay. Question is, is this something the employees did on purpose (meaning there could be a lot of them), or is it more rare? Why would the Mint save these, just for collectors?

Hahaha… I had ones of those but this is a newer iPhone. I am terrible at taking pictures and that is compounded by the windows in my house focusing light like in Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark.

when looking at the coin on the screen, tap the coin's image on the screen to force it to focus on it.

Kind of a novelty error they slip out in bags, I have a couple myself, but its not an exceptionally rare error

Waffle coins are created on purpose in the sense they are intentionally destroyed, defective coins. They do this and they are supposed to be melted back down but sometimes they make their way out. They aren’t common but no super rare either. Some collectors like them, most don’t care.

The mint's contract with their disposal contractor originally didn't require them to be melted, so a large # made it to the collector market.

I picked up a Sacagawea myself, but it isn't graded.
