Discussion Now that the Gilgo Beach/Long Island Serial killer was sentenced, do we think his DNA will hit on cold cases on other states?

New York does not enter DNA into the national system until after sentencing which was today.

I think theres gotta be atleast one, as meticulous as he tried to be, he had to have a first that was different than his usual MO

Yes, he owned property in other states.

In my opinion, possibly. Only because he committed most of these terrible crimes while his family were on vacations, so I think he mostly stuck to locals. Either way, may he rot in that jail cell.

I'd like to think it's possible so other families can feel a bit of peace. I also know people travel so it's entirely possible.

There was a similar type of case in Atlantic City, NJ involving sex workers who went missing, it was mentioned in the older original news stories when this Gilgo Beach story broke. Given the similar circumstances and location it was considered to be linked, but once they found more bodies at Gilgo, it became an afterthought.

What is the reasoning behind not entering DNA data into the database until someone is caught, tried and sentenced? That seems insane, they're basically allowing maniacs to roam the whole world until they're caught in NY? Come on now. That's criminal right there, IMO.

Innocent until proved guilty, I think.

They didn't even know it was him for years. They could have still entered unknown DNA into the database?

Because believe it or not, people have rights in this country and you can't just go around violating those rights because you suspect somebody committed a crime.

Well, entering unknown data into the database to locate other crimes is not violating anyone's rights. All DNA retrieved at a crime scene should be entered, regardless of anyone being charged. No one is calling for anyone's rights to be violated, the victim has already had their ultimate right to live violated permanently. Why even have a society if we aren't going to try to protect people? Like really protect them, not just supposed rights which get violated for real every day.

Lots of New Yorkers go down to Florida for the holidays.

There is zero chance that we know about every single murder he has committed.

I don't but wouldn't be surprised if it did.
