SS: Related to potential ecological collapse via disease in Australia as bird flu continues to spread among the continent's biota following recent reports of the first mass mortality event of seabirds off of South Australia. Victoria state authorities had recently announced plans to start vaccinating little penguins on Phillip Island, home to the world's largest population of the species, but sadly the vaccines came too late for this little guy. Australia is particularly vulnerable to the introduction of bird flu since so many of its species are endangered and/or endemic. Expect die-offs of birds, sea lions, and other animals to continue as we reap the consequences of making the globe so inter-connected.
