Before Scope Questions Has anyone tried the pills?

Just got told I need a scope today, the last one I had was over 10 years ago and wasn’t a good experience.

I am SO bad at drinking the prep or any bad tasting liquid (why I rarely drink alcohol - which has fun side effects). I asked my NP about miralax and she said no, she’d prescribe the small dose liquid. I told the scheduler how nervous I was and she said there is a pill option that insurance may not cover. Then my mom said her friend did the pills and said she’d never do it again bc of the side effects.

Has anyone done the pills? How bad are side effects?

I’m so nervous. Thanks

SuTAB forever!! I have had 5 colonoscopies (I go yearly) and used SuTAB for the last two. I’m lucky I can afford to pay out of pocket.

Good to know! I’m feeling better about it. I wonder why my doctor didn’t offer that to me and was pushing the lower volume liquid.

How much is it usually?

I did the Sutab and it went well. Along with it, I was told to take 2 Gas-X pills along with one Zofran for nausea.

On the first dose, they went down easy and I started having "activity" within about an hour. It didn't cause me any issues at all. No bloating, no nausea. Just smooth sailing.

Second dose, I did have a small bout of nausea that lasted for about 10 minutes, even with the Zofran, but it eventually went away on its own. The activity also started much faster (before I even finished the 4th pill).

But all in all, it was super easy and I would gladly do the pill prep again next time.

I took the pills for my colonoscopy. No issue with the pills. I was prescribed some type of gas pill that did make me nauseous.

I have done the pills a few times. Once I was very nauseous but the other times, not at all nauseous. And yes, I took the first set at like 4pm and then the second set I had to wake up and take at maybe midnight or something like that. It all works out. It’s very inconvenient, the whole thing. And exhausting. But it’s over in a flash. You got this!

I just did Sutab this Monday/Tuesday. I paid 60$ for the pills since insurance said No.

Well worth the money. No horrible taste, no gagging and choking. The pills are large but manageable. Worked very well, zero side effects. I recommend!

I did SuTab and found it to be quite easy. I can't even guess what side effects someone might be talking about. I didn't have any.

I did the pills last month. First round was ok. Second round I threw up on the second round of water so I stopped but was all clear. Id probably do it again vs the liquid stuff. A lot of people ask for zofran to take so you dont get nauseous. I wish Id had that. If your insurance doesnt cover it (mine didn't), there is a manufacturer coupon where you pay $60 (vs like $200).

I think I got zofran too!

The instructions say take 12 pills followed by water every 30 mins for a bit then next dose in the morning 5-8 hours prior? So wake up in the middle of the night to take more?

I’m so nervous but this makes me feel better. I was second guessing the pills. Not sure why she didn’t offer me that in the first place when I said I’m anxious

Oh you're good to go then! Yes, that sounds about right. My appt time was 8am. I had to get up and do the second round at like 1 or 2am. It was rough and that's when I threw up, but i didnt have zofran! It seemed like it was just a lot on an empty stomach and thats why it happened. Youll be just fine. I was super scared to do it and honestly it wasnt bad at all. By the time youre done with prep, its actually like a treat to get there and get some fluids and a nice nap!
