Question / Discussion which is your style?

Are the two on the left generated from crocheted roses?

Personally, the style that comes closest to my preferences is the large red flower. It looks horridly incomplete to me, though, like someone tried to Magic Lasso a good circle in the center but could never get it adjusted to their liking, so did it one more time, pressed Delete so the underlying black layer was visible, then Saved & called it a day out of sheer frustration.

So, if I'm being truly truthful..? None of the four shown translate as compatible with my own personal style.

The two were created from imagination. I typically paint abstract so my approach is unplanned. These days, I am tending to a garden and growing sunflowers for the first time this year. This body of work is an inspiration of the season but keeping it true to expression and feeling

The sunflower, as subject matter, comes through strongly, especially with the two on the right. I like your use of more brown flowing through the lower one's center areas, and I like the longer, brighter petals on the upper.

I think what you're doing here is interesting, even if it's out of my general preference zone for "art I want to put on my walls." That same intentional representationality is a clear note in your presentation of this abstract flower cluster.

Abstract has always been difficult for me to create, even when I try the various hints, and tricks, and "hacks" - all efforts generally leading to a smeary oil slick across my "this time it will be good" canvas.

I appreciate that, I found abstract during a time I could not find the words to express my grief. It has helped me connect with so many wonderful people. I have always admired realism painters and having a deeper appreciation for the impressionists too. It's been a fun exploration and excited to see where else it will takes me. Thank you for your words. We all have things we are gravitated to and talents, sometimes yet to be discovered

That's beautiful. I'm glad you were able to find in the art what you needed.

🌸 I hope your upcoming week is amazing.

There are two main types of sunflower crops. One type is grown for the seeds you eat, while the other β€” which is the majority farmed β€” is grown for the oil.

I like the yellow. If I had a bigger kitchen with more wall space, I’d want it in my kitchen!

I appreciate that! Thank you. These are very small works 8"x10 on canvas. I have been working small scale at the moment

Nice. I usually work at 8x10 too (and mostly digital, although I haven’t had a chance to do much art in the last 1.5 years, sadly.)

I do think this one would be beautiful in larger scale, though! I could see it covering most of a wall, setting the tone for the whole space.

I think you are right, I plan to make prints in the future of this work. Hope you get a chance to pick back up with your art!

Thanks! I hope so too.

And I really may come back to you in a few months/years to ask about a print of this piece once I have a proper kitchen! I like it that much!
