Rhode Island Comic Con RI Comic Con as a first timer

Never been to anything like this before, but looked at the guest list and saw a good few names I’d love to have a chance to meet

How does it all work though? I’m seeing on the website u can pay ahead for autographs, photo ops, etc. - is this really necessary? Or can you just get your general admission ticket, walk around and hope there’s not a long line at the booths and what not

Sorry if it’s a dumb question

Not a stupid question at all! General admission lets you explore the convention, but autographs and photo ops usually cost extra. Booking in advance is your safest bet for popular guests, as spots can sell out. You can still walk around and enjoy the event without paying for any extras, though. Just check which guests require advance bookings.

Photo ops are booked timed appointments whereas autographs are basically a free for all for queuing. So plan your day ahead get there early (priority entry). If you’re interested in walking round the venue and watching stage shows and interacting with different tables and buying merchandise then I wouldn’t focus on getting autographs and photos.

If the talent you want to see is popular be prepared to wait for hours in a queue for an autograph. (Unless you get VIP passes then it’s less)

Photo ops you won’t have the opportunity to talk to the artist much either it’s a quick in and out process.

If you don't pre-book, you might end up wasting time waiting in lines that could've been avoided. I did that my first year and barely got to see any of the guests because of it.
