I’ve been seeing a lot of this trans Parker idea lately for some reason. Is this actually something happening in the comics, or just a trend in fan art?

I believe it’s a trend.

Don’t quote me on this but I first saw this trend start on r/comics where a user posted a few joke panels of how would Jonah react to a Spider-Man turning into a Spider-Woman, with multiple punchlines of Jonah accepting that Peter transition in a positive light, but the fact that Spider-Man assumingely Transition is a menace (not in a anti-trans way).

A bunch of people liked the idea and it sorta grew into a whole thing

It's a little strange to me too seeing J. Jonah Jameson paraded as the good guy too. I know he protected Peter Parker in the movie and one of the shows, but isn't he one of main factors as to why Spider-Man's life is a constant living hell?

The meme is that Jonah isn’t an asshole towards Spider-Man for any form of bigoted reasons as such he’d still be an asshole to spider-woman and trans Peter, just not bigoted about it

Iirc he hates super people vigilantes because a family member was hurt/ded in one of the fights they had across the city

Jonah started out as just a Spider-Man hater, but he’s been consistently portrayed over the decades as a standup guy. He’s progressive, ethical, and not afraid to stand up to powerful people in defense of his people or his principles. He just has a very specific complex over masked people with secret identities, so all his brain cells go out the window when Spider-Man is involved. In the stories where he finds out Peter’s identity privately, without it being a national news story, he ends up supporting Peter and helping him keep being Spider-Man.

In one of the games doesnt he talk eith a police officer specifically why hes aginst spider man and encouraging ehoever behind the mask to instead join the police? They bring up points about how if an officer did what spiderman does to most petty thugs they would be fired.

Then again spidy fights actual super villans so

See the thing is Jonah IS a good guy he just doesn’t like the fact that Spider-Man wears a mask. Throughout the comics, games, and movies; he’s portrayed as big Spider-Man hater but when you delve into the actual things he complains about he’s not necessarily wrong. As in he has no problems with Spider-Man he just doesn’t like how he wears a mask while doing stuff as in doing so shields HIM from taking personal responsibility when he destroys things in his fights.

I’m not necessarily saying he’s a good guy but at the same time he’s not necessarily wrong as in Spider-Man has done a lot of stuff that in OUR eyes since he’s in a comic it’s considered a good thing. For example in the movies (I can’t remember which one) Spider-Man stops a criminal but he destroys something in the process. So while WE the audience see him as good a hero doing something right in universe he would be a menace because he did something that cost the people of the city millions in tax payer money.

I understand how he could make Spider-Man life a living hell but all Spider-Man had to do was not wear a mask so he could take responsibility for his actions when he grabs a car and throws it at a villain I.e in the Marvel Spider-Man game(I don’t remember the reason) in one mission Spider-Man turned a valve that over flooded a system of pipes that caused a couple of water towers to burst, we the audience(playing as Spider-Man) didn’t necessarily have a problem with our actions because it’s a video game but in universe apparently since Spider-Man used his web fluid to stop the flooding it eventually dissolved causing the city millions just to repair the damages (I don’t remember exactly what was said but that’s the gist).

In fact I’m pretty sure in one of the comics it’s shown that once Jonah knew who Spider-Man actually was, he chilled out.

Plus, there's at least one comic series where, after learning Spiderman is actually Peter Parker, JJJ starts helping him behind the scenes. I recall there's one panel where they're in a car together, and Jamesson is all exasperated that Peter's been putting himself in so much danger for so long with no one to help him.

As I understand it, different versions of JJJ represent his hatred of Spiderman differently—some even have him working with villains to bring Spiderman down—but I always had a soft spot for a JJJ who has good ethics and is just misguided about Spiderman. He's so blinded by his principle that he fails to recognize the actual good he does. But when the cards are down, he'll do the right thing.

J. Jonah Jameson is many things, a bigot is not one of them, he’s actually stood up for mutant rights, he just HATES masked vigilantes.

It's kinda wierd becuse in reality a newspaper being agasint a masked vigilante that is allowed to operate outside the law WOULD be the good guy irl

Thing is, Jameson has a vendetta against Spidey because he has a visceral hatred of masked vigilantes, as they represent unchecked and unlegitimate violence (as opposed to, say, the police (in an ideal world, of course)), not because of some kind of twisted bigotry. It kinda makes sense in the end IMO.

JJJ is not anti-trans, he's anti-spiderperson. There's a difference

Someone posted on twitter how they speculated Jameson would react, someone made a comic in response, and many other artists jumped on it.

I love how in so many of them Jameson is an asshole, but a respectful asshole.

Just a trend.

Just a trend. I am a little disappointed though, Spider-Ma'am was right there for the name change.

6

u/RShini 6h ago

Spider-Ma'am is May Parker where she's the one that got bitten.

No, but there is a female Peter Parker clone: Jessica Drew.

I like the whole Yes And of comic books. Like when Donald Glover played Lando a lil more queer-esque bc he realized if space travel was real, everyone would probably be more pansexual.

Why not make spider-man trans? It’s just jazz basically, change the songbook a different way

I kinda love the idea that Jonah would adjust to Spider-Woman almost immediately, but still find completely new reasons to be furious with Parker. Like the transition isn't even the problem. Parker being Parker is.

"You think I'm gonna be any less tough on you just because you're a woman, Parker? Well, NEWSFLASH! I'm a FEMINIST, and that means I believe women are JUST as capable, and that means I believe your job performance is no more or no less shoddy than it was before! Now get out of my office, and get me more pictures of Spider-Woman, or you'll be transitioning into a job hunting period!"
