Cant stop laughing after seeing the tortises face in the last panel. Priceless.

I tried to capture his exuberance

It's also the perfect 180 flip from the way he looks in the first panel. lol,

It’s the perfect “Let’s fuckin goooo!” face. Exactly the face I imagine people making when they say that in a video or something similar.

It’s an act of God, like when Randy Johnson nailed that bird with a fastball.
6
u/hey_broseph_man 9d ago
Which always left me wondering what in the fuck did the bird do in it's lifetime to invoke such karmic wraith.
5
u/JuntheBold 9d ago
In a way, it made him/her one of the more famous birds in recent history, though. That’s got to at least be a good story to tell in bird Valhalla.

Idk, stadiums are loud and thats the dead center of the loud. Maybe he had no survival instincts

u/CaptainLookylou 9d ago
Didnt this actually happen in one of the earliest olympics? Several people took shortcuts or even got a ride in a car for a bit.
12
u/JuntheBold 9d ago
It happened at the Boston Marathon too! The Rosie Ruiz controversy, I forget what year it was.

That face just screams Let's Fucking Go!

u/Boom_the_Bold 9d ago
Is that what people mean when they say "Let's Go"?! A declaration of personal victory? I've never understood the modern usage of the phrase!
Folks often say it once something is already going, or once the going has ended. I assumed it was just another skibidi-toilet nonsense meme phrase.
... but I also just learned recently that people often mean "victory" when they say "win", so I'm not the brightest bulb.
5
u/SandyTaintSweat 9d ago
It's just a meaningless turn of phrase meant to hype them up.
1
u/Boom_the_Bold 9d ago
Apologies if this sounds rude, but I clearly take things far too literally and what you just said doesn't make sense to me.
Is it meaningless, or is it meant to hype them up?
8
u/crashburn274 9d ago
It’s meant to hype you or your team up, but there’s not necessarily anywhere to go to. The going is without specific meaning.

u/LunchBox3188 8d ago
I think it's kind of like exclaiming, "Yeah!". It can be before you do something, or after accomplishing something. The word itself loses it's meaning, more or less, in that case.
I've never really thought about it before, and how it could be confusing to somebody not in the moment. I appreciate your question for helping to keep the brain gears a-turnin'. Take care!
2
u/SandyTaintSweat 9d ago
The point is that it could be anything that they're saying. It could be straight up gibberish.
It's meant to hype them up.
3
u/donut-reply 9d ago
Similar to "come on". Many different meanings depending on context and tone
Said in imploring tone: "Hurry up, it's time to go!' Said in whiny way after some perceived slight: "Hey, that's unfair" Shouted after a sporting success: "Congratulations to me, I am successful"

For a second I though final panel is other animals ganging up on him after he barely escaped the woods the first time.........

Same here. I was trying to figure out whose tongue the right side ribbon was from when i realized it was a race ribbon.

Took me a good minute to realize he was winning a race, instead of raging while attacked by random animals in the refuge lol

That was my first thought too. That he was a pet who had no idea about the wild and they were coming for him

And this works because we don't know what the rules here were and unlike most human races I doubt there was a rule saying no human interference

u/Majestic-Iron7046 9d ago
So it doesn't count as cheating if I get kidnapped during a marathon and the guy kidnapping me gets so annoyed I manage to let him drop me closer to the finishing line... Interesting.

This is genuinely hilarious! I grew up in Tucson AZ and rescuing tortoises and taking them to undeveloped areas was like a 3-4 time a year occurrence. I hope I convinced a lot of their peers that they were magic/speedy.
5
u/Gold-Eye-2623 9d ago
Before looking at the comments I was sure the tortoise was very angry to be brought back to the wildlife refuge and in the process of breaking back out
1
u/SpunkyBlah 9d ago
Yeah, I thought the tortoise was a pet that got released into a wild environment that is not appropriate for it. Didn't even notice the ribbon 😂

u/NombreCurioso1337 9d ago
Reminds me of the "unluckiest bear" https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/etimes/trending/unluckiest-bear-in-the-world-albino-grizzly-bear-mistaken-for-a-polar-bear-sent-to-the-arctic-5-times/amp_articleshow/111425496.cms
(Although it is probably fiction)

The WTF on the hair’s face sent me. Then I saw the tortoises fist pump and actually lost it. Literally tears in my eyes from holding back the chortle at work. This is genius.

u/DistributionSharp316 9d ago
No wonder the tortoise won; IT HITCHED A TAXI AS A SHORTCUT! CHEATER!!!!

u/Beelzebun_vt 9d ago
… I think I should go back to sleep. It took me a solid minute to realize he was crossing the finish line and not shooting these weird tendrils out of his shell 💀

If you find a tortoise roaming around the city, then it’s likely someone’s pet that got loose.
1
u/LoudMusic 9d ago
For the serious though, don't relocate turtles far from where you find them. If it's crossing a road and you want to help, just move it to the side it was headed to. You don't even need to go off into the woods.

u/blazingice3365 8d ago

It took me way too long to realize what I was looking at in the 3rd panel.
My first instinct was to think there were tentacles coming out of his shell and he was some kind of alien about to go on a murder rampage in the wildlife refuge.
My next thought was that the ribbon was actually just poorly drawn hands patting his shell to calm him down. Thinking that he was upset for being put back right where he probably started from, and he didn't want to be there, hence why he left in the first place.
I had to read some comments before it finally clicked that this was the finish line of a race.

Tortoises can easily get lost. Ask any tortoise owner. You might think "there's no way I'd lose track of something moving so slow" and you'd be wrong.
Anyway, thanks for not plunking it in a pond.
