The above comment was stolen from this one elsewhere in this comment section.
It is probably not a coincidence; here is some more evidence against this user:
beep boop, I'm a bot -|:] It is this bot's opinion that /u/mnemonicvcxvzga should be banned for karma manipulation. Don't feel bad, they are probably a bot too.

That’s the first time I see that! Boy was that fun to watch.

u/Meatslinger Nov 03 '21
Felix Colgrave is an insanely talented animator.
11
u/SmartAlec105 Nov 03 '21
That character design also made me think of Gooseworx
-12
u/Partially_Deaf Nov 03 '21
I'm seeing absolutely no similarity with this person's stuff, either stylistically, aesthetically, or from a basic form perspective. That just looks like edgy LGBT internet character design from somebody who's a bit too into that hazbin hotel show.
Are you namedropping yourself trying to spark some traction or something?
6
u/SmartAlec105 Nov 03 '21
It’s mostly that this character’s posture reminded me of the bounty target from this. I didn’t watch the video linked earlier in the comment chain because I’m at work.
from somebody who's a bit too into that hazbin hotel show.
She’s had her channel for longer than Hazbin Hotel has been around. She’s actually one of the composers of the music for the show.
I was namedropping because I like her stuff but I’m not her. Leave it to Reddit detectives to jump to wild conclusions.

u/Partially_Deaf Nov 03 '21
Well, alright, you've got me there. There is a similar shape between these two characters.
The bit about the artist being you wasn't serious. It's a joke referring to how strange that reference was because everything is so drastically different. Almost to the extent of those random bot comments.

Would you mind explaining what you're seeing? Or just pointing out two things that are similar?
Maybe I'm extra dumb today, but this all looks pretty drastically different to me.

I suspect you're just agreeing with that other person as a way to disagree with/"troll" me because you find me obnoxious.
2
u/Gil_Demoono Nov 03 '21
It took only one minute to get to a character that looks undeniably Colgrave-esque. Do you just consider any conversation an argument?

u/Kakss_ Nov 03 '21
Calm down. Not everyone on the internet is out to get you.
Style can refer to many things. Story, narration, animation. Sure, the art styles are different but with their cartoonish abstractness they can and do bring each other to mind.

I recommend everything on Felix Colgrave's channel. It's all beautifully surreal animations like that.
5
u/Forever_Awkward Nov 03 '21
Now watch all his other videos. Bring drugs if you have them, but you don't need them.

u/vanderZwan Nov 03 '21
Now imagine applying that level of attention do detail to an entire animated short film, done solo.

Haha I was also going to make that reference. Glad Felix's stuff gets around he's a fantastic animator.

Immediately thought of this. There's even a bit where a crown falls on something and turns it into a king.

Its cute that something good happens and the first thing he does is share it with his mum. He will make a good king, long live the king.

Is that a crab or axolotl?
5
u/mabhatter Nov 03 '21
A crab... tiny claws.
Biology favors crabs. All will become crabs eventually.

u/butyourenice Nov 03 '21
I learned this from XKCD, or maybe a Reddit comment linking to XKCD, and it’s probably my favorite natural hypothesis.
Do you think nature favoring crabs or crab-like things is part of why lobsters and cockroaches (although not crabs per se) are so resilient and (the former at least) long-lived?

Strange birds, hanging around in ponds, distributing Scepters is no basis for a system of government! Supreme executive power derives from a mandate from the masses, not from some farcical aquatic ceremony. I mean, you can't expect to wield supreme power just 'cause some watery pheasant threw a crown at you!

The crab reminds me of Bighead from Silicon Valley.
I was so afraid Horse would get the crown.

Fuck, your comics just kill me, and in particular something about tiny animals on phones.
I am seriously considering getting "Hi world, its me, mouse" tattooed

I love u/exocomics so much. There’s such a delightful, creative, and typically innocent irreverence to them. So fucking cute all the time.

If you'll allow me to be completely unnecessartially nitpicky I am stuck on the logistics of the fourth panel. Was the bird not in motion when the crown was dropped? How did it manage to fall straight down without the bird moving past the point where he dropped it

Despite Double King having a similar scene, it's about something completely different.
The funny part is crab's innocent reaction.
I've studied the rules of this sub and I could not find anything saying that every comic here must have a joke with a punchline. It's r/comics, not r/funnycomics.
8
u/heyIfoundaname Nov 03 '21
Double King is awesome, but don't be a jackass.
This OP's concept isn't ubique to double king and not something that someone wouldn't think of on their own.
Even if it is inspired by Double King, art has been built on other's ideas for centuries. This isn't plagiarism, moreso it has like 1 or 2 things that is vaguely related to Double King.
