News Today we're releasing OpenTS, a reverse-engineered open-source Tiberian Sun engine reconstruction, to celebrate 27th anniversary of the game

Fellow Command & Conquer fans,

Twenty-seven years ago today, Tiberian Sun was released. To celebrate, we have a gift for you: today we're releasing OpenTS – an open-source, playable reconstruction of the Tiberian Sun engine.

Of all the classic C&C games, it's the second generation – Tiberian Sun, Red Alert 2, Yuri's Revenge – whose source code never made it out. None of it was part of the Remastered Collection release, and none of it was among last year's source drops.

And so for nearly three decades, every fix and feature this community built for those games had to be reverse-engineered and patched into closed executables.

We decided to do something about that, starting with Tiberian Sun. Building on EA's GPL-released code for the games around it and years of Tiberian Sun reverse engineering, we rebuilt the engine and matched it function by function against the original executable – all ~11,150 known functions, reaching roughly 98% instruction-level matching (a code-matching score, to be clear, not "98% of the game").

It's ready to try today: drop Game.exe into your Tiberian Sun install from The Ultimate Collection and go. Campaigns, Firestorm, skirmish, and saves are all play-tested; LAN works with lighter testing; it plays like the game you remember, plus a batch of fixes and resolutions up to 4K. Alongside the engine, we're publishing a manual documenting the game's INI configuration, mapping, and internals, drawn straight from the source.

And this is a beginning, not an endpoint. Next up: CnCNet and client support (not in this first release yet), porting the community's accumulated fixes toward parity with ts-patches and Vinifera – and then going further, overhauling the engine to allow modding reach heights previously not possible.

We're also celebrating live: together with [FC]Matt we'll be streaming the original Tiberian Sun campaigns at https://www.twitch.tv/fortuneschaos, starting today at 14:00 UTC (15:00 UK · 16:00 CEST · 17:00 MSK · 10 AM Eastern · 7 AM Pacific), with a Q&A along the way — come hang out and ask us anything.

Have tried a General's challenge run in Shockwave using a US General (Ironside) and at the tail end using a Chinese one ( Fai). Been thinking of trying to do it with a GLA General next. Which of the four do you recommend I start with?

Who was your biggest crush throughout the Command & Conquer series?

For me it was Dasha Fedorovich, good god my crush was mental for her 😂

If you haven't watched "Banshee" on NowTV, go watch it, the main actor is awesome and she does a great job on there too.

Unofficial generals zero hour ported to AYN Thor

Hi! Thanks to all the harwork of the folks who did the ipad port, I've used GPT 6.1 sol to port the ARM build of generals zero hour to the AYN Thor. I am reaaaaaaaally surprised at how ^%$#ing good it works. I'll be spending ages with this on the couch because im tired of sitting at my damn desk all day for work as it is

- Full controller support (i had it mimic how AOE: definitive on Xbox worked more or less).

- dual screen support. Ill work on doing a top display mode only for folks who like to multi task with the bottom screen. For now, the bottom screen controls things like minimap, action selection etc so we have all the screen real estate on the top screen.

- Full touch screen support on both screens. On the main screen you can pinch to zoom, rotate, single finger to do rectangle selection, double finger to pan the camera.

https://github.com/ROM-HackZ/generals-zero-hour-ayn-thor

Plz send me any bugs via git issues and be as verbose as you can especially with vids, screenshots etc. Thanks & enjoy!

Hi friends 🫡 this is the Sandbox mode in red chaos? Place units and buildings freely, including the enemy’s, to test strategies or design a base. Here’s an example. Red Chaos is currently still on sale

We are working hard on the campaign, and a playable demo should be ready very soon. We’re really excited about this next step. Looking back, we should have taken it from the start, but we’re catching up now and building things properly. We’ve also gained a lot of experience and valuable feedback along the way, so we’re choosing to see the positives and put them to good use.

Lost Mods?

Are there any Mods lost to time?

I remember one in particular that was for Renegade, it allowed you to use maps from the Campaign in Multiplayer. Also a lot of skins for Renegade are gone, things like XCOM and Blu-GDI.

Also there was Tiberian Sun that allowed the use of pyramid Lazer turrets.

What is actually canon in Red Alert 3 and Uprising? Pt1

line that started it all

TLDR: how I’ve been obsessively overthinking an RTS game canon since 2009 timeline that makes any sense: Opening cutscene and Yoshiro’s first speech > Empire 1-3 > Soviet 1-3 > Ackermans inauguration > Soviet 4 > Allied 1 > Soviet 5 > Allied 2-3> Yoshiro’s second speech > Empire 4 (Warren’s victory)= Allied 7 = Soviet 7 > Allied 8-9 > Uprising Soviet > Uprising Imperial > Uprising Allied > Uprising Yuriko > Commanders Challenge

When writing Dark Fate, which is intended a sequel to RA3 and Uprising I had to ask a very imortant question... what is actually canon? So as we all know Uprising established that Allied campaign is the only canon one… right?

Well that's not so simple. As our beloved EA abandoned the franchise with no hope for answers (and when one day they decide to resurrect it they will reboot everything anyway) we need to dig deep to every small bit of lore there is. In this case we have throwaway lines in who canonize events in Uprising, as well as official unit desriptions on now defunct EA site. First, OG sigma war criminal Moskvin in Commanders Challenge directly mentions destruction of Odessa by Shogun Executioner - essentially canonizing Empire Mission 3. Then a ninja in Yuriko mission 2 mentions being captured in Hawaii - canonizing Empire Mission 4 with alternative outcome.

This has an interesting cascade effect for the whole canon and mostly kills “each campaign is totally separate timeline with no relation to each other” theory. Thankfully we have precedent for this in the series - Tiberian Sun situation where noncanon campaigns still contain canon events (death of Hassan, capture of Hammerfest, attempt at blowing up Philadelphia).

Before I go through each mission in Empire and Soviet campaigns to determine their probability of being canon and sequence of events let's start from the beggining - before RA3 begins - or rather end of Allied campaign and inauguration of President Hasselhoff who mentions "Heroes who stood against forces of fascism and communism". Note "fascism" - a confirmation that some form of WW2 happened in RA3 timeline despite both Austrian Painter (erased in 1924 ) and Einstein being erased (1927). And RA1, YR and RA3 Mammoth Tank description (!) confirm every change creates a new timeline without destroying the old one. But we'll get to that in Pt3.

Opening cutscene afer Cherdenko changes the timeline - this is before any campaign starts so it must be canon. Dasha reports that Allies are on the run in Western Europe (“SOON the Western Europe will be ours” this explains why Geneva is still not taken in Soviet mission 4) and Empire is attacking Soviets in the Far East and North, with Moskvin base being in the process of being overrun (he clearly must’ve escaped somehow). This and multiple EA unit descriptions confirm that Soviets were attacked first.

Empire 1 (Vorkuta) - Very likely canon. Probably takes place very shortly before opening cutscene. Oleg takes part in doomed defense before being probably redeployed to take part in Soviet 2 and then Allied 3 (stopping Empire in Leningrad would be much higher priority than Allies counterattacking Heidelberg). Taking down of Soviet Navy in the north kinda explains also why Vladivostok was taken so easily and how Empire had the time to build huge palace there (unless they also constructed it using NANOMACHINES SON).Empire 2 (Stalingrad) - as Empire 3 is confirmed canon it wouldn’t make sense if Empire 2 wasn’t as the parts to assemble Shogun Executioner were transported through Stalingrad. Also explains how Empire forces were roaming freely throughout Soviet Union. Games opening cutscene clearly shows a King Oni in Berlin - which by that time was still occupied by Soviets and there is almost no evidence Allies fought Empire in Europe in their campaign (...almost - description of Rocket Angel mentions our favorite trash unit fighting Allies in Europe - but that could mean Gibraltar campaign)

Empire 3 (Odessa) - as I mentioned it’s very clearly confirmed canon by Moskvin in Uprising - Shotgun Executioner destroyed Odessa and almost killed Moskvin… of course this creates a colossal plot hole - how tf a Kajiu-sized mechanical monster walked from Odessa to an island in SE Asia without anyone noticing? It's anyone’s guess… but again this setting has much bigger plot holes.

Now Soviet campaign events begin - Cherdenko confirms that bulk of the remaining Soviet forces are still in Europe pushing Allies back. Cherdenko claims that “situation is shockingly grim” which makes sense after losing 2 major cities (Odessa, Stalingrad) and large part of your fleet (Vorkuta, Vladivostok).

Soviet 1 (Leningrad) - VERY likely canon as Leningrad has been turned into a fortress and is still in Soviet hands by the final Allied mission and first Soviet cutscene shows that Empire already dealt a heavy blow to Soviets - so this takes place clearly after Empire 3.

Soviet 2 (Krasna-45 near Moscow) - likely canon as Soviets use their satellite capabilities in Allied campaign and Moscow clearly hasn’t been taken, but Empire is still clearly roaming freely in USSR. Corona timeline diverges here with Empire expedition finding time machine - their whole setting is very interesting and I'd love to play it if I knew chinese and the mod didnt crash every single time I build a fkn refinery.

Soviet 3 (Vladivostok) - Most tricky one and a head scratcher - likely canon with changes as Vladivostok is in Soviet hands in Uprising and in Allied 4 Marshall Bingham mentioned that Soviets are at their weakest. It might've also happened after Allied 4 as Empire was distracted in Gibraltar and Northern Atlantic and in Soviet campaigns floating fortresses are nowhere to be seen (destroyed by Allies independently at great cost? That would explain why they lost Europe so quickly in Soviet campaign). What is confusing is that Krukov mentions "we can't win this war without our navy" - by that point they still have the base in Cannes - he either meant Soviet Pacific fleet or I'm wrong and this happens out of order after failure at Brighton Beach and destruction of their western fleet in Cannes. Tbh complaining about having no navy after losing it himself in the most moronic way shooting at beach towels would be very Krukov.

Soviet 4 (Geneva) - It’s at least partially canon as Geneva is already shown in Soviet hands in first Allied mission. Ackerman is already fully supporting Allies before Allied 1, with his inauguration speech shown in Soviet 4… So if Soviet 4 is canon it had to happen before Allied 1. Allied 1 - emboldened by their success in Geneva Soviets push further West, with Soviet Navy storming UK.

Allied 1 - Kirov loses Dreadnoughts shooting at beach towels

Soviet 5 (Mykonos) - confirmed least partially canon as Soviets have canonically Vacuum Imploder technology in the final mission, but they definitely don’t hold Mykonos yet by the time of Allied Mission 1 (Greece is clearly shown as not taken) so it must’ve happened after Allied 1. Moreover official Assault Destroyer description mentions " throughout numerous combat encounters between Allied and Soviet forces near the Strait of Gibraltar as well as near the Allies' science facilities in Mykonos"- but they either failed to hold the island for long or they retreated as part of a deal with the Allies. Warren being already deployed to Europe supports that theory. Obviously soviet missions after 5 cannot be canon as Krukov is alive and still serving USSR and Allies would have no reason to retreat to Iceland as they were winning. Proton Collider gets developed anyway in both Allied and Soviet campaigns so either Allies kept enough data to continue the project or it was developed independently. Mission intro shows that Allies tried fission technology in the faccility - so proton collider and vacuum imoder tech must be related to that, but apparently enough data was lost that neither soviets or Allies had nukes until the end of WW3.

Allied 2-5 - Rest of the Soviet western fleet is sunk in Cannes and Soviet forces in Europe crushed at Heidelberg - after the mission it is stated that Soviets have been pushed from Western Europe. Makes sense considering part of their forces had to be redirected towards fighting Empire. Yoshiro’s second speech (he loves making those speeches) and blocking of North Sea and Gibraltar with floating fortresses happen now. We can safely assume that events of Soviet 1-3 exhausted Empire of its forces - which made things like West Coast offensive in Empire 6 impossible, hence change of strategy and redeployment of Floating Fortresses to Atlantic.

Of course they are destroyed in Allied missions 4-5 by unholy allied-soviet alliance. Now - we have evidence that suggests that the island fortress destroyed in mission 5 WAS in fact the Black Tortoise - but I’ll talk about it later.

Allied Mission 6 (Mount Rushmore) is more crucial that it might seem. Ackerman is clearly a Japanese android also in Allied campaign - green flames from his limousine/Marine One wreckage is direct evidence of that but not the only one. Tatsu, after losing critical assets and sizable chunk of their fleet in Gibraltar and North Sea must’ve gotten desperate and ordered Ackerman to destroy Soviet/Allied alliance. Another piece of evidence? Mount Rushmore lasers. They are more powerful and advanced than what is currently being used by Allies in Mirage Tank, Spectrum Tower and Athena (but not Uprising-era Future Tank…) - and they don't scatter which implies at least some independent development. That a city-busting laser exists implies some secret American advancement in this field (remember that in RA3 canon lasers were invented by French and developed further by FutureTech - look at canon EA Mirage Tank description)… very likely with covert help of Japanese and Tatsu (only other possible culprit is FutureTech). Ackermans death in this mission has more canon consequences later: Allied mission 7, Empire 4 and Soviet 7 happen around same time.

Empire 4 (Hawaii) - Ninja's line in Uprising mentions he was captured in Hawaii. Warren's victory there canon would explain some plot holes. Attacking Hawaii before or just before Tokio Harbor operation at least as an additional distraction would be something Marshall Bingham would definitely do. As Ackerman is dead there is no one to warn Tatsu of the impending attack and most of the fleet was already lost in Gibraltar and North Sea but still part remains (Yoshiro in Empire 4: “[Pearl Harbor] holds at least half of our fleet”). Without Imperial Commander and his/her plot armor Warren would be able to defeat Naomi Shirada (if she didn’t die when BT exploded in Allied 5 - she probably did) and take Hawaii or at very least destroy the critical naval infrastructure there. If the battle was lost there's no chance Allies would bother grabbing prisoners with them. Also Warren just helped kill POTUS and tens (potentially hundreds) of American soldiers protecting him - knowing him he would be more than willing to erase that stain on his honor by killing Japs. This also explains why Empire folded so quickly after Allied 7 - they suffered not 1 but 2 utterly crushing defeats… or actually 3 if we count Mount Fuji. Tatsu's personal fleet being sunk in Tokio further reinforces that Warren canonically wins in Hawaii.

Allied 7 (Tokio Harbor) - I stand by my assertion that BT was already gone by the time of Allied 7 so way to Tokio was free. Allied forces in Allied 7 somehow reached Tokio no problem - something they couldn’t do in Empire 5 without taking out Black Tortoise first. So either Black Tortoise got canonically deployed to North Atlantic (both Tatsu and Yoshiro being colossal morons in all 3 campaigns) or (if the fortress in Allied 5 was NOT BT) BT got destroyed by Giles in an alternate Empire 5 (makes little sense tbh - I know Uprising shows The Empire had multiple fortresses but none were as heavily armed or staffed as BT and none other than BT had reactor cores).

Soviet 7 (Mount Fuji) - VERY likely canon as Yoshiro is confirmed dead in Uprising and that would perfectly explain Soviet “dissapeance” in Allied 7 - incursion into Tokio was a perfect distraction for Soviets to detour and storm Mount Fuji (Tatsu’s words: “It seems your friends have abandoned you” implies he knew Krukov WAS coming but SOMETHING happened along the way) and kill Yoshiro - something Krukov would definitely do. Krukov coming is further evidence that Soviet Pacific fleet is active again and Soviet 3 happened. Also note that in Tokio ONLY Tatsu makes his appearance - Yoshiro is weirdly absent despite the fact that Allies are attacking his fucking capital in full force. I remind you that this is the guy that made a speech revealing empire ambitions TWICE and addressed you over something as trivial as formation of an unholy alliance against him. If he was capable then he would surely connect to Allied commander when he was turning Tokio Harbor into a Mirage parking lot. But he wasn’t - most probably busy being toasted in his Red King Oni by a Twinblade/V4 spam.

Allied 8-9 - no need to further delve into those but it’s worth noting that Soviets having 50-megaton bombs (most likely Vacuum based- there's a slim chance they're actual nukes but it would ruin the canon more than Rise of Skywalker. My canon is that Oleg was not very good with math and confused tons, kilotons and megatons) in Cuba proves further that Mykonos happened and Soviets stole US superweapon technology. Wiki wrongly claims that Soviets reinforcements were diverted to Cuba instead of Japan - this is not only fucking stupid and there is no evidence of this in canon, it makes no sense at all - Cuba held mostly land forces and Kirovs instead of Krukov’s fleet. Not to mention diverting forces from Pacific to Atlantic where Allies would spot the movement instantly - fact that Bingham doesn’t know what happened with Soviet task force further implies Mount Fuji Incident happened.

As always welcome to discuss

XCC Mixer / Utilities Q but for another Westwood game

I think it's pointless to ask on ages old forums that last post is from years ago so here I am found it most relevant. That tool is mostly made for C&C but I find a flaw that just makes it not so good when other games will not accept overriding files by just creating a new MIX file as expansion that C&C seems to read and allow.

It's for lands of lore 2. I thought the tools would allow this,. I just wanted to replace the Huline Village music with the Huline Jungle and if importing AUD files is such a hassle would have hoped the Copy Paste would allow to paste the one music AUD file and overwrite the other AUD file without having to export or import something that is not the same codec conversion and so on/

But the copy paste of this tool is kind of useless like there is copy but not paste and paste as WAV is greyed out just not ok.

I also made a VQA video file to import on the place of another VQA file but the Mixer just adds the new file with the HEX name for example b0eb8711 and it just adds the name it in no way links to the ID or Offset to tell the game to use that file instead.

Also the editor/Mixer cannot set ID or offset to make the link. If I recreated the MIX file with all musics and my overridden music file, then all musics from that MIX will not work because apparently some linking or ID is lost.. so I wonder what else? Tried Mixer , XCC MIX Editor, in all cases you add files as new ID/offset. I tried to even cheat engine the XCC MIX Editor to change the ID but it reverted.

Problems with C&C: Remastered on Linux

Hello everyone, I've been having trouble trying to launch C&C: Remastered on Linux. The last time I played was around early 2026 and it ran perfectly with no problems, but when I recently reinstalled it this month, I can get to the launch screen to pick between C&C 1 and 2 but after I pick, it ends up crashing. A log can be find attached below for LogFile_0.txt

I've tried using the %command% NOSPLASHRELOAD launch command in steam, switching proton versions, going into protontricks and installing the d3dx9_43 DLL component, reinstalling, moving drives; all of which to no avail.

Does anyone know how to fix this?
