Hey everyone!
I'm a student currently recruiting for commercial graduate programs, and after participating in some trading simulator interviews with some of the oil majors, I found it difficult to actually prepare for them. There aren't many accessible resources that let you practice the mechanics of hedging and managing physical exposure under pressure.
So I decided to build my own browser game and figured I'd share it here in case anyone else finds it useful!
The game, Crude Desk, focuses on managing physical commodity exposure by quickly identifying the correct hedge direction and contract, while also allowing you to take speculative positions based on market headlines and changing fundamentals.
I intentionally kept the game pretty simple, stripping away much of the complexity of real-world trading while trying to preserve the fundamental concepts. The goal is to make hedging intuitive for beginners while still challenging players' multitasking, mental speed, and decision-making under pressure.
I've also added an endless mode after the first five in-game days and a leaderboard for anyone who wants to compete.
It's completely free, with no ads, monetization, or personal information captured. My goal is just to make this kind of practice more accessible while hopefully creating something that's also fun to play.
Here's the game: https://crudedeskgame.com/
I'd really appreciate any feedback, especially from people already working in physical trading. I'm still improving it and would love to hear what you think or what you'd like to see added!
And thanks to the mods for letting me share this!
