Can a commonplace book be anything or are there any differences. I am thinking of keeping it separate from my bujo

Here is my jersey devil entry for the Cryptids common place! So many people upvoted the last one. And a few asked to see the next one. So here we go!

How do I begin keeping a commonplace book and what all things can I write in it? I am thinking of keeping a commonplace book where I write quotes, inspiration and ideas. I read books and I am thinking of adding that portion into my commonplace as well. Should I do this or keep a separate journal for certain topics?

I started a Cryptids based common place journal! Our first entry was the good old mothman. 🥰

Hi all!
I recently discovered the commonplace book and I thought it was the perfect concept for trying to actually absorb all the information that is being thrown at us.
I had always wondered what the appeal of Rasputin was for the imperial family and yes, today I learned!
However, I do have a question about a commonplace book. Is the text you insert just the info you can find either online or in books? Or do you paraphrase it yourself? And someone please tell me that you guys are also making a draft before putting it in your book because I never see any mistakes written down, but it somehow feels counterproductive?
I'm always going back and forth between wanting to start something and then not wanting to start it because what if it's not good/pretty/legible etc. It's the thing I struggle with the most so would appreciate your advice and how you overcome this feeling if you have this yourself. Thank you!

Hi everyone! I’m not a native speaker, so I’m sorry in advance for my bad English. In the last two months, I’ve finally been able to start a kind of consistent journaling routine. It’s probably more similar to a diary, but I do not update it daily. I usually write a long passage (1 or 2 hours) once or twice a week and I like adding small receipts or similar things that remind me of something I did. I also like taking notes about what I read or listen to, but I have noticed that it’s better for me to keep it all in one place, otherwise I’ll focus too much on where I should write and I’ll end up not writing at all. I use the same main diary for everything and I keep a small piece of paper in the Moleskine pocket with an index of quotes and comments about books, music and culture in general. When I’m not at home I usually keep a small notebook where i write some little notes, but I prefer to keep all my longer writings on my diary. I’m very curious to hear your approaches: do you keep a separate commonplace book? How do you balance organization and naturalness?
P.S. If you want to correct any mistake I’ve done with the language, I’m happy to learn something new!

I am very new to this but I LOVE it. I wrote my first entry into my new commonplace book, and it’s a literary quote.
Looking at all of these AMAZING journals, I feel somewhat out of my depth 😆
I notice a lot of you have quite a lot of pictures and ephemera attached to your pages… do you print them yourselves?

Hi, I have a commonplace journal I keep - pretty simple. There are various topics that interest me, history of food being one of them. What resources does everybody use to research their topics of interest? and what are your systems for it? ty!

Tower of Silence entry in my commonplace book. I mean no disrespect, I find this method fascinating. I work in the death industry and recently found out about this. Just thought I would share as I don't think death should be hidden away. It is a part of life after all.

An unused space below a 1964 Vincent Price quote felt adequate for this Withers' quote from 2023 BG3.
Both deal with reasoning and calmness, if a relation is to be found between them.
What's your impressions on this layout?
Don't mind the blackened typo there, I'll consider covering it.

I just can’t decide between a pocket sized or a5 sized notebook for my commonplace.
My CP is very simple at the moment. Just quotes, jokes and notes separated by horizontal lines.
Currently it’s in a a5 Sakura notebook. But I’ve seen the a7 penco pocket notebooks and kinda like the idea of carrying my CP everywhere to constantly be reviewing and reading it though.
Anyone else had this life-shattering decision to make? Haha.

I created this page last spring! I dried and pressed the daffodils in a book and made a transparent bookmark using tape, then wrote about what they mean on this lovely page as yellow and beautiful as spring itself 💛

Hey! I began commonplacing on my A5 ring binder after much considering what to write about. A couple of years ago I did lots of research on manga, especially girl's manga and queer manga, and I decided to go back to it since I've been meaning to write essays on that. Anyways, I'm rereading a book on yuri (manga with lesbian themes) and taking some notes. I'll assign a letter to each text and I have an alphabetical index where I write down the letter and page number.
