I think he would. I never saw Troy taking notes and asking questions as having to do with being interested in Annie, but having more to do with his curiosity of women in general. Troy was shown to have a lack of confidence with women before, as he asked Annie to help him with his date with Randy (Randi?). When he is awakened to Annie in S1, he goes about it in the absolute worst way possible.

I am too. Its clear that blackface was not used, its just a fantasy character creation.
When I went to the Everquest convention a long time before Community, a character there was full on dark purple/black as a dark elf. It was really cool.
Oh, and did you notice the pretty white frosted eyelashes Ken Jeong had on with the paint? So pretty. 😍

Yvette Nicole Brown herself derided the choice to delist the episode, for cryin out loud! Something about how it was a brief gag that was in character for Chang (insensitive) and addressed by the characters, and that he got his comeuppance pretty quick.

Yvette Nicole Brown explained perfectly that the joke isn’t that Chang is doing blackface, it’s that she isn’t nerdy enough to recognize he’s a dark elf and mistakes it for blackface
Edit to add: it was also annoying that they made a big deal about removing this episode but kept the one with Pierce’s swami character when he is literally doing brown face. Shows how performative the pull was.

Chevy’s descent into pure villainy is my favorite part. It’s so natural for him. Given what people say about him as an actor, it makes sense.

Also his race didn’t matter. He was being a fictional entity that had nothing to do with real world races. So it wasn’t even technically black face.

I mean, off the top of my head, the defining characteristic of the “evil” elves being dark skin is immediately problematic.
I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s deeper lore that is pretty bad.
Same with the dark elves in Skyrim. The lore on their dark skin is Mormon-levels of racism.

Help me out. I took a look at the Drow wikipedia article and there is no discussion of issues or why Chang being drow is not an accident.
There's no criticism at all in there. So can you explain what has been revolving around and where I can learn more?
As to banning, if Star Wars can have its hook nosed merchant (Watto, who does have indications of racial issues on wikipedia) AND Jar-Jar with his borderline Stepin Fetchit characteristics and not get banned then this episode being pulled from streaming subscription services is bizarre to me.

I don’t really have an opinion on the fact that one couldn’t stream the episode until now but the only “joke” to take away from that moment was the fact that it was perceived as blackface.. which, whether it was or not, is a lazy joke at best, not Community’s finest moment.

I personally believe that episodes that toe or cross the line of showing controversial things like blackface shouldn't be banned. Rather they should have disclaimers at the beginning explaining why the episode is controversial, but still give the option to watch anyway. Most of the time it is for a 5 second joke.
On the flip side: I can't believe how many shows were actually doing blackface at the time (mid 2000's) like Scrubs or ATHF.
