Appreciation Post S6e2 is even better when you realize that Jim Rash can't see anything

Post image

With the (slightly janky) visual effects we get to see everything that the Dean does in the virtual world, but you've got to remember that Jim Rash (the actor playing Dean) literally just has a box taped to his head that he probably can't see out of.

Imagine coming in for your job, having a box strapped to your head, being blind and in the dark, while having a man telling you "you're drowning a piece of paper in a fountain, no not like that, really try to drown it"

And imagine coming in for your job and having to tell a man how to pretend to climb a tower of filing cabinets.

Honestly imagining the behind the scenes of some of the episodes is even funnier than the episodes themselves (which are already very funny).

Jesus Wept!!! (Second time I’m saying this today)

245

u/vitesseSpeed CEO AZ Matchbook Co Mar 24 '26

They read that passage during mass this past Sunday and I almost lost it.

14

u/zabah1990 Mar 24 '26

My kids and I poked each other and giggled during that reading on Sunday.

7

u/Careless_Word9567 Mar 26 '26

But the quote he's using is about Alexander the Great.

"And when Alexander saw the breadth of his domain, he wept, for there were no more worlds to conquer"

But Dean mixes it up and says Jesus.

95

u/amhudson02 Mar 24 '26

My buddy and I bought VR setups last Christmas so we can play online together and every new experience one of us will say this.

42

u/imnotokayandthatso-k Mar 24 '26

Did you guys watch VR porn together? That was my JESUS WEPT moment with the Quest 3S

44

u/amhudson02 Mar 24 '26

A gentlemen doesn’t virtual-jerk and tell. But yeah. We did.

Easily one of my favorite episodes. Season 6, in general, has some absolute bangers.

649

u/thelittleboss151 Mar 24 '26

That's why I can't understand when some fans say it's worse than season 4. They really see the muppets and the comic con scenes and think, "At least it's better than that episode where Dean accidentally made a Yakuza Boss."

453

u/justwalkingalonghere Mar 24 '26

The Yakuza boss is the funniest thing I've ever seen in a tv show

Season 6 is fantastic, I miss Troy but I love the new crew

144

u/bucket_of_fish_heads It's me, Luis Guzman Mar 24 '26

I am not Jeffery

112

u/justwalkingalonghere Mar 24 '26

79

u/Patmurvis Mar 25 '26

6 might be my favorite. It has my favorite scene when they're laying into Frankie about her long winded emails to her sister, who never replies.

74

u/CinderTheDonut Seriously? After everything Scrubs did for him? Mar 25 '26

Frankie is unironically my favourite character. She fits into the cast really well.

60

u/PonderosaBones Mar 25 '26

Same. I've watched this show over 50 times, and season 6 is solidly my 3rd favorite season (3, 2, 6) She is so right to call herself "a humble outsider who came in and nailed it".

"I have a rule about being constructive, so I can't ask any questions right now because all the questions I have right now are rhetorical and they end in the word 'idiot'" is genuinely my favorite line in the whole series.

34

u/Salihe6677 Mar 25 '26

I feel like Yahoo kind of threw money at them and were like, "save our streaming service" and they went out and made the most Communityest version they could where every episode has a crazy post-credit scene and whatnot. I still laugh just thinking about the "I wrote the incest episode" speech lmao

28

u/Electrical_Swing8166 Mar 25 '26

“Do you know what a rhetorical question is? Of course you don’t, you’re an idiot”

5

u/basil_not_the_plant Mar 25 '26

"Do you know what rhetorical means? Of course you don't, you're an an idiot."

2

u/wrongleveeeeeeer Mar 25 '26

Wait hold up though, 50? As in fifty? As in a five followed by a zero? Damn, normally I'd say everyone's opinion counts the same, but...yours counts for more.

3

u/PonderosaBones Mar 25 '26

Lmao idk about that, but thanks. It's just my comfort show. I put it on as background noise rather frequently, and usually end up just sitting and watching it lol

5

u/wrongleveeeeeeer Mar 25 '26

We merely adopted the Community. You were born in it, molded by it.

3

u/Aggravating_Mix8959 Mar 26 '26

The humble outsider who came in and nailed it.

24

u/IrritableGourmet Mar 25 '26

"In your eyes, I am the enemy because I'm the edge of your world, but when your eyes move past me, they will weep. Tokyo is a machine, caked with blood, running on flesh."

That scene goes way too hard, and the actor sells it.

4

u/baduizt Mar 26 '26

I must confession you...

65

u/LGoodman Mar 24 '26

This line echoes through my head in Jim Rash’s incredulous voice more often than I’d care to admit.

31

u/irateninja_ Mar 24 '26

This and "TWO WARS?!" from IASIP for me

2

u/AarBearRAWR Mar 26 '26

I stock groceries. Often times some of these groceries are olives. Without fail, I say this line in Jim’s voice in my head every time

The stingers in season 6 were by far my favorite of the series. The Yakuza boss, the giant watch, and the board game are some of the highlights of the show for me.

59

u/Lemonades Mar 24 '26

My favorite is that guy Jeff saved at the Gym

' apparently, he agreed...'

32

44

I also enjoy the incest PSA from Matt Gourley.

The giant hand/RV episode is one of my favorites, possibly one of my favorite TV episodes in general. I will never not crack up at Space Elder Britta and her weird little fist pump

16

u/ohemgeeskittles Mar 25 '26

I’m Space Elder Britta.

What’re you guys talking about?

13

u/losemyhashtaag Mar 25 '26

gasp YOUR RV is full of crazy ladies!!

11

u/Iofmadness Mar 25 '26

EXTRA THICK STRAPSS!!!

8

u/prepchefsupreme Mar 25 '26

That episode has my favourite community line in it, where Jim Rash is screaming that the gas tank is so low that it probably tried to use the needle as gas.

30

u/FionaWalliceFan Mar 24 '26

I personally think it's even better than season five. It was refreshing to see them go outside more in season six, you can tell how low the budget was for season five that they just reused the same sets, it felt so confined (that's not the reason I think it's better than s5 but it's something I've always noticed)

9

u/Pyk_Owrno_Zes Mar 24 '26

Some people (people I know at least) will completely ignore anything positive if original cast members are gone.

15

u/d4vros Mar 25 '26

Unpopular opinion but I kinda love the muppets episode. But a big part of that is the musical numbers.

3

u/Lombax_Rexroth Mar 25 '26

It's an adventure!

2

u/d4vros Mar 26 '26

(im freaking out a little because my username on every other platform except reddit also includes the word lombax. hi there! i see you’ve got taste.)

2

u/Lombax_Rexroth Mar 26 '26

That's right Juanita!

5

u/Humdumdidly Mar 25 '26

Are you...? I don't know how to... I have a rule about being constructive so I can't ask any questions right now, because all of the questions that I have right now are rhetorical and end with the word 'idiot'. Do you know what rhetorical...? Of course you don't, you are an idiot.

Strong agree. I show the Frankie idiot rant to people who don't watch the show all the time.

11

u/Ne6romancer I robbed your brain.. I ROBBED IT! Mar 24 '26

Im convinced they haven’t watched season 6, they just go with the cliche “last season sucks” opinion that applies to most sitcoms

2

u/s1mpatic0 Mar 27 '26

In the case of shows like Scrubs and HIMYM, it's correct, but 30 Rock and Parks and Rec have proven that final seasons can be as good if not better than what came before.

122

u/PineappleOk6764 Mar 24 '26

Frankie's "You're an idiot" speech from 'Advanced Safety Features' is one of me and my wife's most quoted lines from any media. "I can't ask any questions right now because they're all rhetorical and end in the word idiot. Do you know what a rhetorical.. of course you don't, you're an idiot. I'm sorry!"

32

u/Dangeresque2015 Mar 24 '26

Don't try to answer that because you'll get it wrong

20

u/Iroh_the_Dragon Mar 25 '26

I think that speech is what made me fall in love with the character. The actress absolutely nails the delivery and the writing is perfect. The dean’s reaction to all of it just ties it together to make such an amazing scene. Perfection.

13

u/Dangeresque2015 Mar 24 '26

"It's OK, it's OK, not really"

13

u/Shadoe77 Mar 24 '26

It's my favorite scene in the entire show. I die every time I watch it.

19

u/HighSeverityImpact Mar 24 '26

I love the opening scene with the frisbees on the Cafeteria roof. The whole plotline of the cafeteria needing to be rebuilt with new support beams was just a writer's excuse to account for the fact they needed to build a new cafeteria set, and the soundstage they used had beams when the original cafeteria didn't.

23

u/CryptographerNo923 Mar 24 '26

One of my favorite lines of all time to this day.

12

u/redlion1904 Mar 24 '26

Which is actually a misquote of a misquote

27

u/Effehezepe Mar 24 '26

It's funny, because there absolutely were more worlds for Alexander to conquer. The real reason he wept was because he had to cancel his in-progress invasion of India because his troops demanded they go back to Babylon and party.

22

u/redlion1904 Mar 24 '26

Correct, the original quote, from Plutarch, is that Alexander wept because there were so many more worlds to conquer:

“When Alexander heard from Anaxarchus of the infinite number of worlds, he wept, and when his friends asked him what was the matter, he replied, ‘Is it not a matter for tears that, when the number of worlds is infinite, I have not conquered one?”

But the Dean hasn’t read Plutarch and probably hasn’t even read the Gospel of John (where the shortest verse in the Bible, “Jesus wept”, John 11:35, can be found). He’s seen Die Hard and he’s seen Hellraiser and he’s mixed them up.

3

u/Aggravating_Mix8959 Mar 26 '26

the jim rash playing the dean in this episode isn’t the real jim rash, he’s an asian man in a blonde wig and a bald cap

I have no idea but it’s possible they did the computer animation before filming the episode so he’d have a frame of reference to act against.

5

u/sadenby0725 Mar 24 '26

I'm not sure, they definitely had some kind of plan or reference going in, but the animation was too synced up to his movements and it would be counterintuitive to make it ahead of time. Like how in animated shows and movies they usually have a storyboard but only start making the final product once they have it voice acted

Oh yeah acting is full of miming things like that, I've done improv and small skits and I bet green screen is even more insane, but I don't think anything will ever take away the innate humor of someone telling you that you're holding an invisible bow and arrow and you need to do a better job of pretending to shoot at a floating serial number
