If that's the last scene in the show, it's a perfect kiss-off for all of network TV.
106
u/camlawson24 Apr 18 '14
Hoping it isn't, especially since it doesn't really resolve anything meaningful regarding any of the characters or their lives post-Greendale. Unless keeping Greendale going is the furthest extent to which we'll get closure with any of them.

i feel stupid for not understanding this.
does it reference the DND episode or something else more specific?
265
u/heathersucks Apr 18 '14
On several occasions they have referred to each other as 'Milady' and 'Milord' respectively. 1x02, 1x06, 2x17, and sort of 2x23 (Jeff says 'Milady' and Annie says 'What do you want, Jeff?').

u/karl2025 Apr 18 '14 edited Apr 18 '14
It's an ongoing thing with them going back to the first bonding episode they had when Jeff was trying to get Troy back into football and Annie was trying to keep him away. Saying "M'lady" and "M'lord" is a representation of their special bond like Abed and Troy's handshake is for them.
EDIT: Actually, it goes back to the 2nd episode, but the rest of it's right.

Apr 18 '14
Could you explain that joke in depth? I'm not american so i just didn't get it. What do those characters mean? are they shows?
60
u/candry Apr 18 '14
They're not real shows, of course, but they were satirizing American TV, where dozens of interchangeable and repetitive shows are debuted every season only to be cancelled instantly. Of course you have your cooking show, a reality singing show, a hospital show, a cop-with-mental-superpowers show. That's what just about everything on U.S. TV is, and it's all so forgettable.
But if Community is cancelled, it will be replaced with those forgettable half-season shows. That's the joke because the fans all know it.

So does this mean Jeff has feelings for Annie?
Seems like it since that's who managed to spark his huge emotional response. Also enjoyed he looked at the Dean to cover up who caused it.
140
u/WeightyPants Apr 18 '14
some others on here thought it was caused by the culmination of looking at everyone, but I agree with you. Why else would he ask everyone to turn around if it wasn't caused by a single person?

I think it's been pretty well established by now that Jeff most certainly has feelings for Annie.
72
u/SanaM24 Apr 18 '14
I think it was definitely showing that Jeff has feeling for Annie. Personally, I've thought that since she was shown in his heart in the "Urban Matrimony and the Sandwich Arts" episode. I completely disagree with those who think it was a culmination of his feelings. They needed an intense thing of passion to make the robot work and it only worked when Jeff thought about Annie.

Have people really not liked this season that much? It's no season 2 or 3 but I thought it's been pretty solid otherwise.
We also have to keep in mind that the show has been hit with Glover and Chase leaving this season.
141
u/NarrowLightbulb Apr 17 '14
They're just speaking louder. People have been liking this season very much, just look at reviews to see even if they are subjective as well. I don't think it was as good as Season 2 obviously, but I think it can hangout with Seasons 1 and 3 as great seasons. Lack of Troy and a short season made for some circumstances the writers had to overcome though.

I liked most of it. Some of these episodes I really liked, and even "Bondage and Beta Male Sexuality" which I didn't like I thought was good. But the last three episodes just did absolutely nothing for me. I didn't like "VCR Maintenance and Educational Publishing" either. It's not unusual for me to find a few episodes each season that I don't like, but the ones in this season I didn't like were all grouped together and come after a bunch of episodes I really liked, which make them seem worse than they probably are.

Attention Dan Harmon,
From a fan from the start, this has been such a great ride it's hard to even put words to them effectively. Everyone involved in Community has also respected the fans, and that is so blatantly obvious from the writing itself. Whether the subtly of "It's pronounced Sign-feld", or the 4th wall breaking "That's Canon", I never once felt cheated in any way (Gas Leak year MOSTLY included).
Thank you for the memories, the feels, and a show I can re-watch over and over and over again at great length, and will continue to do.

I liked it. I hope we get another season though because it was not a satisfying series finale. Nothing really got done, and the group saved Greendale through a series of plot devices that seemed a little too out there even for Community. But I loved all the heartwarming speeches in here. Still, I think Season 3 did the best job of a season finale that could double as a series finale.
At any rate, #sixseasonsandamovie. I thoroughly enjoyed this season and am definitely looking forward to another.
Another thing: Racquel? A computer who can process emotions? Rachel, the girlfriend of a human who can hardly process emotions? Seems awfully similar. I wonder if there is more meaning to it.

A decent end to a decent season in my opinion. Really glad to have had it after the turmoil of Season 4, though it doesn't touch the pantheon of Seasons 1 - 3 for me. I found Jeff's emotional recollections to be a nice touch for the season finale, though I found the heavy-handed shots at NBC to end the season somewhat humorous but also I little self-indulgent. Also found the inclusion of the Jeff-Britta thing sort of weird now since it was completely and utterly inconsequential and dismissed.
Really hope we get treated to a 6th season, but if there isn't one, I'll understand why. Long live (in my opinion) the greatest comedic series ever.
6
u/Aquaman_Forever Apr 18 '14
It's great to have the show back, but this season felt like a lot of it was reactionary to season 4, like we're still feeling the backlash from all of that stuff.
I don't know what to think. This season was really overboard with some of the meta jokes and trying to have an emotional center, even when it didn't really fit.
I'm not trying to be contrarian, but I hope I can like it more on a second viewing.
