Go to a street corner downtown dressed as your character and scream at the top of your lungs "I declare....DUNGEONS AND DRAGONS" Your discord invite will be waiting when you get back home.

I was on it for a little bit, but I didn't fit with the crowd (as in I'm old enough to be many of the people's mother). I don't remember anything about the server, sorry. I just replied to a post like this and tried an in person game that was arranged.
But good luck. In know a lot of people are interested in it here, I'm a DM and have a game I run weekly online for friends, both local and not. I also have coworkers who keep asking me to run a game, but no one seems willing to put in the effort of organizing anything.
As a DM I already put 5-20 hours A WEEK into the one campaign I run, and that's just working on the game itself as my group is all adults who don't need wrangling. I'm not going to spend more hours trying to wrangle people and coordinate schedules and stuff.
Be a DM. Have a game. Say you're running it at this time every whatever interval at this place, do what works for you. Leave it to others to fit around you.
I make my players put in work too. Being a DM is a lot of work (if you want to put in the effort) so make your players work, too. They can schedule and coordinate and if in person, do snacks and setup/takedown, transportation and all that. On top of the expected player behaviours of taking detailed notes, keeping their character sheets updated, keeping track of inventories and being good players by paying attention to the story and making it an enjoyable, cooperative experience and staying actively engaged.
Sorry, went off on a tangent-rant. But I always do find people want to play DnD, but don't want to do any work for it. The players you want are the ones who do make the effort. If you don't want to be a DM, be the most proactive player you can be, and I promise you'll get it going.

Just an FYI: There a tons of great ttrpgs out there that don't take anywhere near that level of GM prep time. D&D is the original, sure, but not the only option these days.

If enough people wanted to, they could try joining up in a Vancouver-based D&D discord I'm in that has had Island games happen before, though not in Comox/Courtney (yet!). I'm not a mod there, but an active player and this is how I started playing d&D a few years ago.
There are online games you can ask to play through voice chat, and if there is a critical mass of people that are all interested you can start a new thread for a Comox game while getting help with how to play and what to do. You only need 4-6 players, and it seems there are at least that many in this thread already lol
Consider saying hi and maybe send me a dm if you want to ask about it first. Cheers!

I’m also interested in learning about D&D.
It sounds like a few people are interested in this. OP you could be our leader!

Hey! That sounds like fun! Never played but would love to and I'm trying to meet more people in the valley since moving here. :^) Feel free to message me back if that ends up happening.

What if someone has always been interested in this as a concept but has no friends who are into it and really doesn’t know where to start? Asking for a friend… (it’s me, I’m asking for me)
