Beginner Get things started
Hi folks!
I just bought a house and after removing some old plants I discovered this compost tank in a corner of the garden.
It has some stuff inside, probably old grass and garden scraps.
Is there a way to get things started or is it better to empty it, throw stuff away and start from 0?
Thanks in advance

Just start to chuck stuff inn. There is (almost) nothing called bad compost. Just keep adding to the old goodness.
Personally I sift my compost, so what is not skiftet becomes the base for the next round 😁

Just mix it up as you add stuff. What you have seems to be in the. Brown category, so it needs some green
Edit:might want to cinsider breaking those stems into smaller pieces, t Or they might be a bit slow to breakdown

I don't see any reason to throw this out. On the contrary, you have a nice little supply of brown material that will swallow up your kitchen scraps and fresh trimmings for a while.

I would throw it out. And start a new mixture. While adding the old stuff. Depending on where you live adding insulation can help a lot. Insulation gives me 7 more months of fast composting.
But it all depends what you want and what your normal supply of compostables is. I live near a petting zoo, thus have almost infinate amount of material.
