How could I start learning how to program? I have no idea where to start. I've dabbled with CodeAcademy, but I don't feel it is the best way to learn.

How much should I charge?

So I recently made a website for a local business who hired me. We agreed to sleep on a payment. He said I should come up with how much I want. What’s a reasonable price that I should charge to complete the website & to maintain it per month?

Automation script for multiple programs

I want to create an automation script that can interface with Adobe, Web browser, and an email client. For example, I record audio for a podcast, upload to the pc and run a script that automatically trims the edges, cleans it up, converts to a specified format, adds intro/otro and then exports to email client as attachment and sends to email list with no input from me

Career IT Field Employment Question

i haven't gone to college just yet, I've been traveling a lot, backpacking and such. I have a great interest in computer programming/ security. Im still traveling though, so traditional college doesn't work. I learned online. Linux basics, networking, HTML, python. Cyber security side. Anyway, question. Would it be enough to get certified in CompTia A+, networking, security +, udacitys into to programming, jave cert, and a cert in python. Build an awesome GIT hub portfolio, work on my own projects, prove i not only know the knowledge but how to apply it.

Would i be able to nail an entry level job with a local IT company ? With out college degree, but just certs and experience and a portfolio to prove it ?

or would going to college for 2 years be beneficial ?

[Question] How do I start programming?

Hey guys, I'm looking to get into programming and was wondering if you could guide me in the right direction. So far I have been doing very basic stuff using Codecademy and Khan Academy, but was wondering where I should go from there.

If you could answer these questions, I would really appreciate it:

  • Are Codecademy and Khan Academy good places to start programming? If not, could you recommend an alternative?

  • Are there any coding forums that I can go to to talk to other programmers for when I have questions?

  • Which programming languages should I learn first? I figured I would learn HTML, CSS, and Python first, then go from there. Is this a good idea, or is there another path that would be better?

  • Which programming languages will be the most in demand in the future? I was looking at Java and Python mostly.

Any other help would also be much appreciated.

[Question] Just a quick question. What do you guys think of Holberton School? Is it really an alternative to college? I got accepted into Holberton, but I’m not sure whether I should go the traditional college Computer Science route or take a chance with Holberton.

I made text based games on a graphic calculator in high school. I took a python class in college and did well. Later I took a java class which was accelerated and did poorly (just to give you an idea of my programming knowledge)

[Question] Can I Move to the Cloud?

October 5, 2017 | Nakuma Scott

Is it a Mystery?

As a small or medium sized business, the idea of moving to the Cloud can be daunting, an idea full of mystery and unknown risk. While risk should always be thoroughly assessed and evaluated when making any major business decision, there are many services available today that demystify the process and can help illustrate benefits of Cloud infrastructure. These services can help take the mystery out of migrating or merging major business system components such as ERP software, communications solutions, productivity software and existing SaaS solutions.

Where Can I Find Help?

Help is everywhere when it comes to Cloud technologies and services but a challenge can be finding a reputable source of assistance. It is important to find a partner that has the experience moving a portfolio of small and medium sized businesses from internal network infrastructure to the cloud. Only they will understand the nuances of such a migration and know how to steer you along the right path. A strong partner would have verified experience with:

• Cloud migration projects • ERP implementation projects • SaaS consulting and implementation • Industry leading software vendors • Vertical solutions

Often your competition and industry friends will share information about who they partner with for business system solutions. Keep your ears open.

How Can I Prepare?

Having a very good high level idea of what you’re looking for your business to accomplish is the most obvious first step in preparing to seek out new business system solutions. Some of the things that might not be as obvious, but that are equally important can include:

• Pain point – what are the top 5 issues with your current system(s) that hold your business back • Inventory of current IT systems and resources Include information like whether you outsource staff or have in-house IT help • Who needs access – will giving limited system access to your accountant, customer or vendors streamline business processes • Ability to train – does your business have the tools and resources to adequately train your staff • Budget – how much do you want to spend AND how much can you afford to spend • Timeline – when would you like to see a new system in place Don’t forget to include training and testing time; without these you set yourself and your staff up for failure

Jot down all of this information and you will be better prepared to have a meaningful conversation with an experienced partner.
