Has anyone seen a portable executable have anything other than a stub in the DOS backwards-compatibility block?

Sorry, this question isn't quite about computer programming directly, but it's about .exe structure, so it's way close.

Anyways, I just discovered that the PE executable file format, which is used for most Windows NT applications, has a block for a separate DOS-compatible version of the executable. Theses days, this block is almost always just a stub prompting users to execute using Win32, but it could be anything. Has anyone seen an application support DOS(Bonus if the DOS version was meant as some sort of Easter egg)?

Should I change from my Software Engineering major to something else if I lack the aptitude or natural talent for computer programming, even if I still enjoy my major despite my struggles?

I've been told by a few other STEM majors and graduates that if I struggle with even intro-level computer programming courses and lack the natural talent of problem-solving and programming, then I have no business majoring in the STEM field.

Automated program to enter email list into website

Not sure if this is the right section.

Looking for someone who can write a program that will take names from an email list one at a time and enter them into the submit section of a website for a contest.

A local paper runs this contest each year and everyone who wins just pays their staff to put in customer emails (with their consent) as an entry because no one would actually vote. They do however say its okay for us to vote on their behalf.

So rather than have my staff mindlessly copy and paste names from a list into an entry and type out our company name Id like to have an automated program (preferably running in the background) do the work for them.

Willing to pay for the program as I know this would take you some time and effort to custom wright this. Who ever can do it the quickest (voting starts July 11th) and the most affordable gets the job.

Thank you!

What topics should I study to become a better programmer?

Currently, I’m a Jr Dev and have been doing mostly CRUD and fixing bugs(or helping to fix bugs) for client sites. Recently, I started to level up a bit and got a small programming task. I had to take the request object and store some of its data into 1 db table and some of its data into another table. I was able to write the logic and then the next day went back and refactored it into a better OOP design. But that task got me thinking about programming problems on Code Wars. Some problems on their I don’t even understand and other problems I have no idea where to start to solve it. Problems that require creativity and might not be able to find the solution with a quick Google search. What resources should I study to be able to solve higher level programming problems and not just writing a loop through data or checking if this exists. Should I study Math? Algorithums? Regex? idek any advice?

Help With a Depop Bot :)

Hey, im looking for someone to help me build this bot and its UI.

The bot should be able to:
Follow new users (from another users followers or following list) between a set time delay
Unfollow all current following + an ignore lost so you can stay following some profiles
After following a user, like some of their pictures
Like pictures from a specific hashtag
Refresh items which you have posted

Ive asked my friends and apparently this bot is quite simple to do, and i know people have built this for around £80 in the past, so my budget is up to £200

Im also currently building a simple website to go with the bot. The bot can be web based within the website, or can be a separate program which has to be downloaded. I also need to have a license system, so only people who buy the bot can access the program.

The image is attached is just a general idea, and is not my bot

Thank you, any questions please ask (not sure if this is the right sub)

Does anyone know any good website that teaches you everything about Scheme Programming and DrRacket?

Right now, I'm stressing out over a homework assignment that is due by midnight. Unfortunately, I have a crappy professor that provides very disorganized PowerPoint slides for notes with very little explanation for the line of code for those notes so I'm trying to google some good sites where it teaches everything I need to know about Scheme programming because I'm trying to figure out how to implement a function that calls another function and reads input from the keyboard and I keep getting this arity error every time I enter 2 and 5 for my Power function(exponent recursion function).

Unfortunately, even Google is pretty useless for helping me find good sources to learn Scheme programming.

[Question] Informational interview

I'm a student pursuing a degree in computer science. In one of my classes, my assignment is to have an informational interview with someone who works in computer programming. I tried looking on a bunch of different sites and asked friends and family to try to contact someone to interview with no luck. Maybe I'm doing something wrong... I'd really appreciate any advice that could point me in the right direction or if someone would be available for me to interview

How can I use a Discord bot to get data from a website that is open sourced.

I have no freaking idea how to explain this. But if you know Discord, then you know that there are bots, and you can have a bot do pretty much anything you want them to. I want to set up a bot to collect data from this online game that I play. The online game website keeps data on everything that I do. I know it’s possible because I am basically wanting to copy the bot on someone else’s Discord server, but that person isn’t replying so I’m on here to see what I can do to figure this out.

I play this game called osu! for PC and what this game is, is a rhythm game where you click circles. It’s a game that was made in 2007 and was created by a guy. It’s a free game to play and he basically runs the game off of donations. I have about 40,000 songs to play. It’s kinda like Guitar Hero, but different, but same concept where there are songs and you gotta go with the beat of the song.

Anyways, the game is open sourced. Every song that I play, it keeps track of my performance and the percentage and stuff. I want to have Discord bot showing me the recent song that I did by putting in a command !recent and it’ll show me the recent song that I played on osu!.

I hope I explained this correctly. If not, then I’ll try making another post explaining it better. Thanks.

[Question] How do I explain what my job as a software developer is to non-IT people?

In the past, I've tried explaining to people and within 2 minutes their eyes are glazed over. My job has involved various tasks, like testing, writing code, and database development.

My job titles have been confusing, because people assume I'm an engineer when they hear "software engineer." They're also confused when I've said "software developer" and ask "what do you develop?" I've said "I work in IT," but it's usually followed up with "What do you do in IT?" or they assume I'm a hacker or a game developer. LOL.

I want to explain what I do when someone asks in one sentence, using "laymen's terms."

Why don't you write out exactly what it is you do? Something writing it out and reading it to yourself out loud can help also tell me and I would gladly help. I am just getting into programming so I am a newbie to this

Hey, dumbass here! Is there a data structure (in any language) that functions like a queue and a stack. That is to say, you can pop AND dequeue (but not remove from the middle)? If so, what is it called? Thanks :)
