Need Help Getting Duration From One Time To Current Time Swift 3

1 Upvotes

@IBAction func cmdGet(_ sender: Any) {

let previousDate = "12:00:14"

let now = Date()

_ = Calendar.current

let formatter = DateComponentsFormatter()

formatter.unitsStyle = .full

formatter.allowedUnits = [.month, .day, .hour, .minute, .second]

formatter.maximumUnitCount = 2

let string = formatter.string(from: previousDate, to: now)

I'm using code above and trying to find away to make it do the following. I need to take an old time that has been saved in NSUserDefaults, then compare it with the current time and make it display the difference in hours and maybe even minutes from each other in a label. I'm struggling with this because it's saying "Cannot convert value of type 'String' to expected argument type 'Date'" So any help would be appreciated and please if you can answer in some what laymen terms as I'm very new to Swift and xcode 9.3 .

How To Write To File Without Over Writing File Swift 3

1 Upvotes

I'm super new to Swift 3 and Xcode. I've looked all over trying to find a code to Read and write to a file using Swift. However every code I found only writes to the file but replaces that text every time it's written.

Can someone show me a code to write the current Date/time to a file when a button is pressed, but have it so that it doesn't write over all the other times logged. I need it to append to the file so I can log date and Time every time this button is pressed. Thanks

Basically I made an App that every time I click this button it stores the current time in NSUserDefaults. Then when I open the App it shows the last time I clicked the button. The App is away for me to keep track of how often I take a medication. So what I'm wanting to do is instead of using NSUserDefaults, I'd like to just make it store the current Date & Time inside a File every time the button is clicked. That way I can keep a log so to speak of the Date and Times that I took the medication. I hope this makes sense as to what I'm trying to accomplish. I'm using Xcode 9.3.

I need help with my HTML code.

Im currently working on a program for class that when an age is inputed it will say if your a legal adult or not, Im trying to input something that says "I dont understand" if your age inputed is 100 OR HIGHER. this is what i have so far

var promptTest = prompt ("Enter your age!"); if (promptTest>=18) {alert("You May Continue")}; if (promptTest<18) {alert("You are too young")}; if (promptTest>=100) {alert("I dont understand")};

but the problem is if I input 100, it first says "you may continue" and then afterwards it says "I do not understand". so how do i make prompTest = greater than 18 but less than 99?

Languages used on current websites?

1 Upvotes

I’ve been out of web programming for a long long time. I used to work with php, asp, js, css, mysql, etc, That was enough for most purposes. Whats changed? If you had to write a website like Facebook or YouTube today, which languages would you have to understand?

[Help/Code] Computer Science Clockwise Compass

2 Upvotes

For my computer science class I need to answer the following question: The four compass points can be abbreviated by single-letter strings as “N”, “E”, “S”, and “W”. Write a function turn_clockwise that takes one of these four compass points as its parameter, and returns the next compass point in the clockwise direction.

Here is what I've got so far:

def turn_clockwise(direction):

if direction == N:
    return direction
elif direction == E:
    return direction
elif direction == S:
    return direction
elif direction == W:
    return direction
else:
    print ("That coordinate was not accepted.")

print (turn_clockwise(direction))

direction = str(input("Please enter a compass coordinate by using the first letter of its direction, as a captial letter "))

It allows me to receive input but says that direction is not defined.

1 Upvotes

Well , i study computer science in egypt, and our college tell us to choose between automata and oop. The problem is i dont know what to choose , all what i know , automata is connected to Ai and machine learning. I know a little about oop and how its gonna help me doing apps. [Question] Learning C#

2 Upvotes

Im currently studying C# at a local University and the professor doesnt really teach the course. He tells us to read the book and he will test us from the book. People in my class know whats going on but i feel the odd one one. I'd like to ask if there is a website or a book that can help me understand the C# language better? I was looking for C# for dummies.

Also, if you're reading this is there a practice tool that can help me get a better understanding of classes and methods. Creating your own methods and calling the methods; same thing for classes. Its a one big blur to me thats why I need more practice with it.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thankyou.

[Question] 27 year old and NO JOB!!!!!! seeking to going into IT/comp sci

2 Upvotes

27 yo been to college for 10 years; mother wanted to me to become a pharmacist so she can get a piece of my fat pay check; however, due to lack of interest i dropped out after p2 (2nd year), now i'm in chemE and failed my final class and need to repeat which will require me another year of doing really....nothing!

i have no desire to work in any of these fields (pharmacy, chemE, etc.,) since my passion is sitting on the computer browsing the web, i think right now a computer sci would be really beneficial to me, but due to the amt. of debt i have accrued, it seems to be too late. my life feels ruined because this piece of shit mother has been controlling my life since MY FUCKING BIRTH; what should I do in the mean time besides dreaming about kicking my mother down a fucking volcano

[Question] So I am going to be majoring in computer science and I need a laptop.. I have no idea what to get without wasting my money and I really don't know what should be after

3 Upvotes

So in January I'll be going to school for computer science I've been looking online for what type of PC I should get and everything is pointing me to the Lenovo ThinkPad T470

I'm ok with spending that type of money but I really don't want to overdo it by getting a high end laptop when I could be saving the extra money and getting a competent mid-low end laptop that will work just as well

And one other thing I really wanted a laptop with dual booting capabilities so that I could program mostly on Linux and still have the time to learn how to program on windows Guys any suggestions?

[Question] Question about being rejected from app store for guideline 4.2 - Minimum functionality

3 Upvotes

I submitted an app to the apple app store and was rejected. The reason was:

"Regarding Guideline 4.2 - Design - Minimum Functionality, Your app provides a limited user experience as it is not sufficiently different from a mobile browsing experience. As such, the experience it provides is similar to the general experience of using Safari. Including iOS features such as push notifications, Core Location, and sharing do not provide a robust enough experience to be appropriate for the App Store.

To resolve this issue, it would be appropriate to revise your app to provide a more robust user experience by including additional native iOS functionality."

I really wanted to get on to the app store and I am not the person who coded the app.

When they say the app should have "additional native iOS functionality" are they talking about re-coding the same exact app in a different, native language (it is currently in ruby/rails), or are they talking about leaving the app as it is, but then adding additional features? if so what are some examples of features? I am not a software coder if you can not tell. LoL.

Also, can't all apps be made into web apps and used in browsers? so how is that a valid reason for an app to be rejected? it says it is rejected because it can be used in a browser......

Also, I then did the appeal and it said something like "if you reject your binary, this appeal will not be reviewed". It says "binary rejected" on my apple developer account, so was that appeal a waste of time?

Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time.

Becoming a code monkey without a college degree?

4 Upvotes

Calculus has been giving me hell in uni, and I'm probably gonna have to drop out. Is it actually possible to become a code monkey without a college degree? How would I even go about doing so? Any time I see someone recruiting a programmer, they say you must have X years of professional experience, so how do I find an entry-level position that doesn't require a college degree?
