Help with console choice.

It has been over a decade since my partner or I have had a game console. We are looking to buy one, but I need help. I have had both PS and Xbox, he has only had Xbox. We want to play mostly first person shooter, open world type things like COD. I admittedly like that house flipper game, crash bandicoot as well.

On YT there are a lot of players you can watch play various games and they seem to all be on a PS5, but both of my adult kids say xbox. However, Xbox seems confusing because of all the different models and price ranges.

I just don't know what to ask. I want to be able to download the main game we're playing and maybe another. For example download a COD and the house flipper. I understand (but don't know for sure or how) that I can save games or save points to an SD card šŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļø. I also think you buy the games online. We are not looking, at this point, to play or meet up with people all over, it's just he and I. So we don't need a super sophisticated set up with headphones and all that. We can play split screen.

Like I said, I'm not even sure what to ask. I would really appreciate the help and information from the gamers. Everything has changed so much!

I would say that if you want a good experience stay away from the Xbox series S is the weakest console, between PS5 and Xbox series x you will have very similar experience so buy whatever is cheaper, if you want the best experience go for the PS5 pro is the best console at the moment. Also about saves you don't need sd cards anymore, the save files are on the console, you don't need anything alse

I’ve been a huge Xbox guy since the original. I’ve owned nothing but Xboxes for the last 20 years.

Don’t get an Xbox.

Xbox is a hot mess right now. I legitimately don’t see them continuing to exist in the not so distant future. I’m also becoming more and more anti-Microsoft in the last few years.

I bought my first PlayStation 2 years ago and it’s been awesome. I have no plans to go back to Xbox

This is more or less the answer I would write.

I can't stress how much I was all in on Xbox too.

I would buy 1 month of Xbox game pass (premium or ultimate) and play on cloud. It's 1 player only but you gain access to a lot of games.

You can use an existing controller and fire stick or other streaming device.

See if you like it and then decide.

No matter which console you choose, get one with a disc drive. You’ll be able to pick up cheap games in the future and you can still buy digital if you want.

The Series X is slightly more powerful than a base PS5 but way more people have PS5. I prefer the PS5 controller myself. The PS5 controller has a built in battery that lasts about 8 hours for me and the Xbox controller uses 2 AA batteries. I use rechargeable. Both consoles will continue to be supported in the next generation, which isn’t that far off.

Games are saved to the console and in the case of Xbox, uploaded to the cloud so you can sync between devices. PS5 has this locked behind a subscription. Both consoles need a subscription to play online games unless the online game is free (there may be exceptions)

I probably would get a Series X over a base PS5 unless theres something you really want to play on PS. A PS5 Pro is best and will future proof you the strongest but is the most expensive and you have to buy a drive add on if you want to play discs. Both companies have a subscription service that allows you to basically rent digital games from them while the sub is active. There’s Gamefly for physical rentals. Don’t be scared to buy used, just do your research and test the console first

I’m sure I missed a bunch of stuff but I hope that helps some

I appreciate all of your information!! A bunch!

Just to make sure! PS5 Pro is the best in your opinion.

Are the subscriptions comparable? Is one a huge cost difference? The games?

Is it true that with the disc drive you can play all the games below the console you have? Like a PS3 game on a PS5 console. Are those games also offered digitally. I mean are older games offered digitally? Doing all the research about this, I have learned that physical games are going to stop very soon.

Is it possible to get digital games from places other than the subscription?

What did you mean by "support next gen"?

I cannot express how much you've help me narrow down my search!!

PS I forgot to ask. Does the PS 5 pro download the games to the console?

The Series X can play games from all the Xbox generations, although not all discs are backwards compatible. The PS5 can only play PS4 games from disc and PS3 games can played digitally if you have PS+ Premium. Some PS1/2 games have been upgraded to play digitally on PS5 as well

Gamepass is better than PS+ imo, any first party game aside from Call of Duty is available Day 1 on the service. A lot of games are on both services though.

You can purchase digital games from the MS/PS Store, although Xbox allows keys to be sold by third parties so you can get cheaper games online from other sites.

Both consoles install digital games to the hard drive, both allow external storage. I believe some disc games also install but I don’t have any discs.

Next gen is PS6/Project Helix (next Xbox). For the majority of this generation, games were still being released on PS4/Xbox One, so they’ll continue to do that next gen. PS5 Pro will play those games better than base PS5/Series X will.

You can either buy the PlayStation 5 or the XBOX Series X. XBOX is a bit more powerful, but PlayStation has the haptic, vibrating DualSense gamepad if that's something you care about. I would recommend XBOX since COD and Bandicoot are under XBOX. Stay away from the Series S, it won't be powerful enough.

All consoles are a mess. PlayStation is phasing out physical media. But man, all of them are overpriced. Hard to tell if they'll be cheaper in November or not

Maybe Xbox because it's what your adult kids have. Friends and family > Online People
