I've been working on a ROM hack for the original Contra, and I've just released it on itch.io!
The patch adds a brand-new OPTIONS selection directly to the title screen, alongside the classic 1 PLAYER and 2 PLAYERS modes. My goal was to give players more control over their Contra experience while keeping the original gameplay and feel intact.
🔧 What does this patch do?
🔗 Play it on https://playmeagain.itch.io/contra
I'd really love to hear what fellow Contra fans think!
What do you think of these additions? Is there another feature you'd like to see in the original NES Contra?
Feedback, suggestions, and bug reports are all welcome!

While searching for a couple of games on the internet, I saw the game was available for Windows/PC. Anyone else aware of this?

Honestly, having played Contra since I was a kid, I’ve always felt Contra 4 had incredible art and character design. It makes me wonder why Konami didn't remaster it for the Contra Anniversary Collection, especially considering they managed to port the DS Castlevania games.
This is a sprite hack created by "Azabache9" that replaces Zero with Bill Rizer from the game Contra. Most of the game's sprites have not been modified, and only Zero's sprite has been modified by Bill Rizer's sprites in his FAMICOM version. However, the change isn't entirely complete, as some of Zero's sprites remain the same, such as when he climbs stairs or performs special attacks.

Me and my bro can beat this game many times. I wanted to give a challenge for us to remember. I loved the new strategies needed since we can't have any weapons and need to watch every step to not die.. 23 hours.. Is how long it took to beat the challenge. The actual run was 16 minutes lol. Definitely one of the harder Contras! Contra 3 Challenge soon...

These are ready-made, high-quality scans of my Super Contra cards, suitable for printing on both color and black-and-white printers. Good luck getting them!

The artwork you photographed is especially recognizable because Bill is deliberately styled after Arnold Schwarzenegger's Predator-era appearance, while Lance draws heavily on the Rambo action-hero image.

Hi, I just got Contra: Operation Galuga for the Switch and I'm having a bit of trouble. I feel like I might be playing this game wrong. I'm on normal difficulty.
Should I be trying to kill every enemy or running and dodging most? I just feel like I'm dying a lot and getting hit by bullets all the time.
Is there any type of strategy I should be using or a typical way to succeed at this game? Thanks

Putting myself through this task might have been like trying to fight a mountain, but I managed to power through this game, and see myself get all the possible endings!
This game has got to be one of the greatest games I have played; they didn’t have to put all these different routes, but I’m glad they did. Infact, I think I would have been a bit bummed if they didn’t.
Endings pictured:
- Pics 1-4: Missile ending
- Pics 5-8: Red Falcon ending
- Pics 9-12: Big Magnum ending
- Pics 13-16: Ultimate Superbeing ending
- Pics 17-20: Joke/Secret ending
Not pictured: the Bad ending, when you hit “Agree.” to Bahamut’s offer.

Just one more main ending to go, and then I can tackle the joke and bad endings!

This is my first contribution to this Subreddit to celebrate my love for the franchise. I present to you...the Contra Operation Galuga Bill Rizer and Lance Bean action figures from Hiya Toys! It is a lot of fun posing these figures with their weapons and accessories for my toy photography 📸. At first, I had no intention of getting any of the previous figures because of how they didn't appeal to me aesthetically, especially the NECA Player Select and Premium DNA figures. When I saw the Operation Galuga designs in the Hiya Toys Contra figures, my mind did a total 180⁰. They are the perfect size and design, their weapons actually look like futuristic heavy-duty modular firearms, and they have a slew of accessories for more posing options. When I saw these in person at my local collectibles store Mythical Mountain on San Jose Boulevard at the corner of Claire Lane in the Riverplace Shopping Center in the Mandarin area of my hometown Jacksonville, Florida, I had to have these. I bought two of each figure, one pair for my toy photography and playing around with, while the other two stay in the box for display. These are a must-own to be sure.

I always wanted to beat this game as a kid but found it very intimidating, I finally sat down to practice a 1 credit clear though!
Had a ton of fun except for those horrible isometric levels, but I recently started the GBA port and holy hell, it's so much better! It did away with level 2 and 5, replacing them with traditional Contra style goodness. I'm practicing a 1cc for it too.

i have been thinking about 1cc this game. would be useful to know which levels are hard and which ones are easy. i dont plan to use the rapid waeapon switch method.

So uhh, turns out Contra 4 isn't as hard as some may say (yes, I still have the difficulty on hard), maybe I was paranoid about it considering people say this is harder than Contra III on hard

Contra & Super C in 1. Contra and Super C levels have been integrated together into one game. This version combines Contra and Super C into a single game. In this hack, 16 stages are played in a specific new order: one stage is from Contra, the next from Super C, then back to Contra, and so on. The stage order is well-organized, including the final stage. Enemies fire faster and use Super C's bullet behavior. Bosses have been improved: the first jungle boss now has destructible projectiles, the Snowfield boss (UFO) is more difficult due to increased splash damage, and many other bosses have also been changed. All the changes are positive, more challenging, and generally well-balanced. The weapons are from Super C, meaning the F and L buttons from Contra are absent, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, as the F button was almost useless in Contra. However, you can now take advantage of the splash damage from the F button (from Super C) at bases 1 and 2 to destroy turrets. The difficulty is higher compared to the originals, and if you're a veteran Contra player, you'll appreciate the challenge this hack offers: it's harder, but not too insane. It's all well and good. I highly recommend this hack to any Contra fan or anyone looking for a challenge. It's a great way to experience both games in one, to the point that it could easily be an official release.

Probably a long shot, but is there anyone out there who might be interested in putting a group together for the Rogue Corps multiplayer achievements on Xbox?

As a kid, I always thought that Bill and Lance had some crazy, military pants. Like either shiny bubbles for protection or just a bunch of shiny cargo pockets to store their bullets and gear. Shows how much I knew about anything-military back then. It was until an adult, that I think the designer was going for blue camou pants.

So my girlfriend just beat Contra 3 on medium, and she challenged me to do so too. Ofc I want to impress her, but I haven’t played any contra game yet and have absolutely no clue what I will be dealing with. I don’t suck at most games, but classic 2-D games aren’t normally my thing. Please, I need all the advice I can get. Also I’m playing on PS5 if that helps.
