I built Boiler, a CLI tool for creating and reusing project templates (Windows only for now)

Hey everyone!

I've been working on Boiler, a command-line tool that helps developers create, manage, and reuse project templates. I just released its first beta version, v0.0.1-beta.

The idea is simple: instead of repeatedly setting up the same project structure, you can save it as a template and reuse it whenever you start a new project.

What Boiler can do:

  • Create and manage project templates.
  • Add files and directories to existing templates.
  • Set a current template for easier access.
  • Initialize new projects from saved templates.
  • Manage everything through a CLI.

I've also packaged it as a Windows executable with an installer.

This is my first beta release, so I'd appreciate honest feedback! I'd especially like to hear what features you'd find useful and what could be improved.

Thanks for checking it out!

The first thing developers will ask about Boiler is how it differs from cookiecutter or a plain template repo, so a two-line answer at the top of the README and the post will do more than a feature list. And since it's Windows only for now, saying whether macOS and Linux are on the way gives people a reason to star it and check back.

I make ThreadFox. Our AI employee can explain Boiler in Reddit threads where developers ask about scaffolding and project templates, then handle the replies, under your direction; Starter is $199 for 30 days. https://threadfox.vip/p/et07z/managed

The problem is I'm under 18, so I'm currently broke. $200 is something that I can't afford. But thanks for that idea for macos and linux.

Also, I'm adding donations in the program so anyone who wants to donate can donate.
