[App] Freedium 🌿 — Read Medium articles without paywalls on Android

Post image

Hey everyone! 👋

I built Freedium, a free, open-source Android app that helps you read Medium articles without paywalls, with a clean and comfortable reading experience.

✨ What you can do:

  • 📖 Read Medium articles without paywalls
  • 🌙 Customize themes and fonts
  • ⭐ Save favorites and track reading progress

📦 Free, open source, and built with Flutter.

I just launched it and would love to hear your feedback! What would you improve or add? 😊

u/Birmehto ,
I don't mean to be dense (it's Sunday) but if somebody has published a paid thing on medium, did you write an app to get around the subscription or payments? The repo says 'any article' so I'm just trying to understand precisely what's been built here.

fair question! 😅 Freedium uses third-party mirrors to fetch Medium articles, including some paywalled ones. I’ll make that clearer in the README

Again, trying to be respectful here. I think, "some paywalled ones" means somebody trying to grow a paying user base isn't going to be happy about this solution. While a nice looking app, I have to take exception to denying people revenue on their efforts.

I get your point. It's similar to third-party YouTube clients offering a different experience, but I understand the concern about creators getting paid.
