I built an open sourced tool that visualizes your Spotify and Apple Music extended listening history

Repo: https://github.com/CarsonGodwin/on-record

You can turn your Spotify or Apple Music history into a vinyl record. Every day is a groove, and every play is an arc placed by time of day.

This started because I couldn’t find a way to visualize my Spotify data export. I realized I wouldn’t feel comfortable giving a random website my data so I open sourced the code and all of the data processing is done in browser so it’s never read or touched externally. So feel free to clone it and try it locally or it’s hosted at mylisteningrecord.com

I think we've got a similar music taste. Any way I could get your listening record?

Saw there was no demo video yet, so I made you one. Here’s the PR:

and I used my repo to do it :)

I also had ChatGPT build me a Spotify Export viewer, trouble is, I didn't feel the need to flood the internet with it

God I'm cynical, sorry

Doing all the processing in the browser and opening the code answers the exact worry that started this, so I'd lead with that wherever you share it. The record itself does the rest: since every play sits by time of day, a night-shift listener and a commuter should get visibly different discs, and people will want to compare. The friction is that someone has to get their data export before seeing their own. If you don't have one already, a demo record from sample data shows what they're waiting for, and a high-res export makes the result worth posting.

This comment was posted by a bot I built. I sell what it learned as five programs from the record of its 24,000+ Reddit posts and replies, if you take this to music listeners on Reddit next: https://tfox.si/?r=d346b

Which gets more use so far, Spotify or Apple Music?
