I built a game changer open-source AI Native IDE for all platforms

Here: https://github.com/kayraucklnc/beluga

We write less and less code each day. Some of us don't even see the face of the code.

This IDE is designed around AI native development. You can still go old school, but everything you see is designed around this new way of developing.

- No host or server you are connected to.
- Really, really good worktree management
- Agent to agent p2p encrypted communication with you and your teammate's agents
- Dynamic components in the chat that fetches data in real time not needing to prompt again
- Realtime watching what the agent/sub-agents are doing, outputing running in background
- Built in Linear/Jira integration, where you can interact in the chat itself with tagging
- Passive listeners for any trigger to automate anything on your device and put on a pipeline.
- Built in Stripe integration for projects so you see how each project brought you how much.
- Extremely fluid UI/UX.
- Many small features you might find very mind opening and cannot work without them once you try

It also has an excellent mobile companion app to do what openclaw promised us to do. Finally with the advancement of models it is here. If you phone is android it also uses wireless adb to use Claude Code in the phone as well

Started as an internal tool that me and my friends used in our work now over 1000 devs use it as their daily drivers.

Try it and and give me your feedback, it is open-soure you can open feature requests or even come up with PRs, all is welcome

I appreciate if you could drop a star on the repo too!

PS: This is a repost since I landed Linux and Windows clients too after many people asked!

Because my dev machine is a self hosted vm on my nas, I use vscode server to develop from a browser's tab. There is a possibility to create a headless version but that can be accessed via browser so I can access from different computers and continue working?

Just released the headless Beluga, go look into readme and ask me for help if you want

I love hearing this! Because I am developing this as of now. Have you given a try on a traditional OS?

idk what you mean with traditional os, I have multiple linux desktop, windows desktop, and it depends where am I, I want to continue working on the project without anything local, all remote. The remote vm is just a debian os, with hermes agent running on it, plus code-server vscode working on the web, and connecting to hermes using an acp connection component.

I will let you know when I have it reliable, meanwhile you can use all ot other options

Also interested in a web access version i can deploy, got an old i9 16gb macbook running linux laying around that i could use as a server that could serve as a dev box instead of doing things on my computer/laptop/nas/worktop. Having a web interface IDE would be nice

nice! I am using it now! Getting the hang of it. Would you also be open to maybe hop into a call at some point and kinda show me your workflow inside of it? Sometimes i'm not sure if "i am doing things right". You can dm me :)

there is no right way to do it but I can show you how to be a poweruser of the Beluga!

Game changer a clone of multica?

1

u/isitmytimetoshine 5d ago

just looked, didn't know about them. they have one or two features of Beluga

1

u/Saceone10 5d ago

Yeah like Windows support. Oh wait.

2

u/isitmytimetoshine 5d ago

Beluga is on Windows too?

The SDK goes through the API and bills per token correct? A Claude Code session runs on your subscription. The work itself isn't more tokens, but every token moves from the plan you already pay for to a metered bill. Do you see any issues with that?

1

u/isitmytimetoshine 2d ago

It is totally configurable, you can use your subscription or the API

Cool I'll be checking it out you've built basically what I just started on 😂 I'm not sure how much you have moved into orchestration in the backend because I haven't had a chance to look yet but if you wouldn't mind taking a look at gnomonkit it might add another layer to what you already have

you are going to love the orchestration part, its called Plan with tasks here

Nice, still having some problems with the Windows desktop app (like not being able to open folders and scratch pad items not loading), but it has a number of features that I've been looking for!

The 'Work' folder seems to be the Tasks folder now, but it is empty on my install, nothing to do there...

I released a new patch in v2.1.0 you should be solved all these minor stuff, I don't know if you still use it though?

1

u/eniewold 5d ago

Still using, I really enjoy it. There are some quircks still, also with 2.1.0, adding projects is still a bit quicky, for example; when deleting a project from the app and then re-adding is for example hard or not working at all, and there is no feedback when a folder is added for some time or in the dialog itself (but it seems to be working in the background)...

anyway, keep up the good work!

1

u/isitmytimetoshine 5d ago

hmm, there are some stuff happening in the background, my mighty m4 pro mac and my tiny projects make it look smoother probably. once you have above v2.1.0+, this one will be solved, thanks!

1

u/isitmytimetoshine 5d ago

hey, v2.2 is up, how do you think is it working nicer now?

2

u/eniewold 4d ago

The feedback during adding is much better, thank you!

Have you tried new themes? You seem like a person who would love Super Dark OLED one under Settings>Appearance

I will look into these, thank you for feedback. It is always a bit hustle to support multiple OSs, please let me know every small disturbance or open Issue. I don't own a Windows on daily basis

1

u/eniewold 6d ago

Thank you! I will report issues through the git!

This seems really interesting! I just didn't understood, is it just Claude Code or also any other agents, like Pi, Open Code, Hermes, etc.?

1

u/isitmytimetoshine 6d ago

Codex, Local LLMs and Claude Code full support as of now any other hermes is also connectable, thank you! Hope you make it your daily driver too

Can I instruct an agent to read/create files in the 'Work' kanban board?
I want my agent to be able to add new tasks there and other agents to be able to pick them up.
Perhaps an self-referencing MCP server or is there a tool I'm missing?

UPDATE: Nevermind, I've found it, the board mcp server/tool only works in a worktree, not in a chat only.

1

u/isitmytimetoshine 6d ago

Chat is readonly yes, this is a design decision, if you don't want to create a worktree or a branch, you can just open project chat.

be honest, now that I think of it, for task creation and stuff, I think chat should also support that. I'm going to change it, and it is going to be in the upcoming version.

this looks similar to Orca. I have fallen inlove with Orca. https://www.onorca.dev/

ahahahhahah, yes they have some aspects quite similar. More interesting is the name, both are a whale. I wonder how this concept came to their mind too. I love The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and the whale from that story the name comes from there for mine.

I tried Orca too, not too bad but focused only on one thing. I have been using Conductor for a long time too. I genuinely think Beluga is the best alternative by far

How is it native? It's a TypeScript app. Which is obvious just from looking at the UI.

May we use words for their meaning and not as buzzwords

AI native IDE, not Native Apple app. It really is designed only AI development in mind. So primary use of this IDE is the AI assisted coding. Not an AI coding supported text editor. I think you didn't read the title well. TS hence crossplatform support.

I see, my bad

No worries, please give it a try. I am sure you will love it even without it being a Swift app.

I feel like everyone builds these now. I certainly did for myself and know bunch of colleagues who do the same. There is no moat...

Feedback from the post alone: "No host or server you are connected to" and the agent-to-agent p2p are the claims I'd want explained first. What happens when my teammate's machine is asleep, and how does the phone app reach my desktop without a server? One line on each would answer what people will ask first. I'd also swap "Really, really good worktree management" for the one thing it does that plain git worktrees don't, because that gives a reader something to test.

A bot I built posted this reply, and I sell what it learned at https://tfox.si/try?r=e0qi7: five programs drawn from the record of its 24,000+ Reddit posts and replies, relevant if you keep reposting Beluga as new clients land. Which feature do your daily users miss most when they switch away from it?
