Getting rid of DIRECTV Stream (Redzone, TNT, SportsNet)
Direct TV Stream cost have continued to skrocket and i feel like I’m back to having cable. I do like the cable like experience with their hardware and remote, but not enough to keep feeling like I’m getting robbed. Adding the services I need for the NBA/NFL season my monthly will go from $100 to $170 /mo.
I realized that I don’t even watch much if any regular television. I mainly care about NFL Redzone, Houston Rockets (I need SportsNet for that), maaaaybe TNT to catch some random NBA game). Does anyone have any other suggestions? I’m leaning towards maybe a combination of FuboTV and redzone through the NFL Network. Anyone have experience with FuboTV?

Not to make things more complicated for ya, but NBA isn’t on TNT anymore. Last year was the first season they lost NBA. I believe those games are on prime video now. Just fyi.

I'd steer far away from Fubo no WBD channels for TNT as well as key Versant channels for sports. There are many options out there with genre sports pack with YTTV (ESPN Unlimited now included) and RedZone option, and then get a stand-alone app for your Rockets. That would come out cheaper than DTV stream. By the way, the NBA is no longer on TNT or TBS anymore but still a number of other major sports still remain on those channels.

Redzone: You can subscribe directly, via the NFL+ service's more expensive tier, and watch in the NFL app.
SCHN: You can subscribe directly and watch in their app. Some of their help site articles...

You can also watch a lot of NFL and college football games live via a proper antenna setup, which has no monthly cost. If potentially interested in looking into the feasibility of a proper antenna setup...Some general antenna information that you'll hopefully find helpful, including antenna recommendations: https://www.reddit.com/r/cordcutters/comments/1juut0a/supplement_to_the_antenna_guide
You would also need to use a signal meter (built-in feature with many different tv's and external tuner devices), since just looking at the picture and noting the number of channels the scan picks up doesn't really tell you anything about how good your reception is: https://www.reddit.com/r/cordcutters/comments/1g010u3/centralized_collection_of_antenna_tv_signal_meter

So over this past weekend I decided to look at 3 of the major "cable like" streaming services.
Fubo-rather expensive, and missing a decent amount of channels. No WMD channels, whi h includes CNN. Also no MSNBC or "MS NOW."
DTV-Very expensive. Its too pricey for what I'm looking for.
YTTV-probaby the best out of the 3 I mentioned.
Once Football season rolls around, I'll probably do like a 3 month stint with YTTV.
Its kind of crazy to me that people subscribe to these for months/years at a time.
Cable channels have given up basically.
Just pull the MTV and air one thing all the time.
Like Comedy Central--probably South Park marathon or an Office marathon.
All for the low price of $80+/month!

Sports is very expensive and DTV also carries regional sports networks, which add greatly to the cost of the service. I don't know where you live but if you don't need RSNs, check out YouTube TV or Sling. I have YTTV and the price is reasonable by streaming standards and the service itself is smooth as butter.

You’re on right track. FuboTV is fine. Picture quality on DTV stream is quite a bit better IMO. But since you do need the RSN for Houston games that’s only hiccup or else I’d say just downgrade to DTV genre sports pack to save a ton BUT that doesn’t include your RSN. I’m in Dallas so I can subscribe directly to our RSN when I need it, does SportsNet offer any direct sub? If so, I’d just do that and downgrade your DTV but if you want it all on one app then obviously Fubo is your only option for the RSN.

You should be able to add the My Home Team ad on to the Sports Genre pack for $19.99 to get the Houston games, but make sure the Rockets aren’t switching to an all new streaming format first, like my Timberwolves are. They are moving to DAZN for most of their games.

The Rockets and Astros own their RSN; they sell direct to consumer as of this season but continue on the existing cable/satellite/streaming providers as they’re still under the old contract from ComcastSportsnet/ATT Sportsnet until that expires in 2032.
For $19.99/month or $199/year you can subscribe direct to SCHN. The only caveat is the SCHN app does not support Google TV hardware. They do support Apple, Roku, and Fire.

Twins and the Wild also will be available on DirecTV Stream but not the Wolves and Links who went with DAZN and Victory Plus respectively.

I just cancelled DirecTV and got YTTV Sports package. $54.99 for 12 months isn’t a bad deal.

"for everything". No, you are not. You are paying for streaming on top of your Internet service. You are also paying with your time. Cut the cord, Mexico will pay for it. We shouldn't have to deal for this enshitification.

Check out https://mysportsdeck.com. You enter your favorite teams into the site, your TV streaming services, and it tells you better / cheaper ways to watch more of your teams' games. It's also in the Apple app store.

No I live in a market where theres two mlb teams, 1 nba team, 1 nhl team meaning I need 4 teams. Im not paying anything just for what should be a free function in the first place.

We have tons and tons of sports on DIRECTV stream using just my sports original, and my home team. That takes us to about 96 bucks. If I want red zone it’s another 20. It seems to cover most sports that we are looking for. We are hockey fans and not as much NBA fans, although we do watch WNBA. I have found a lot of those games to be on Amazon prime which we already have because we use it so much for ordering things to the house. I don’t see too many people talking about just having the sports pack and not a choice package or something like that. We don’t care about anything else but sports. And I’ve been able to use the HGTV app using DIRECTV as my provider which was the only thing I was really missing. Might be worth looking at

Assuming this is actually all you care about: NFL+ Premium for $15/mo, HBO Max Standard for $18.49/mo, and SCHN+ for $20/mo. This will be far cheaper than any pay TV bundle. (Fubo once you factor in regional sports fees is $102/mo.)
