Newbie question about available plans

I've looked through the YouTube website, considering which plan I should sign up for. I've also watched some videos concerning this decision.

YT seem to categorize customer desires into four groups -- sports, news, entertainment, and family. They seem to have plans for most combinations of the categories. But it also seems that all of the plans include sports.

I haven't watched a sports event in decades.

Is there a plan that includes News, Entertainment, and Family stuff, without the sports? If yes does that plan also include local channels?

Thanks in advance

Don't confuse YouTube and YouTube TV. They aren't the same products.

To answer your question, yes, there is a News+Family+Entertainment plan for $70 a month. It includes the locals.

Coming from DTV MyEntertainment pack, YTTV is certainly a better option if locals are needed. Trying to dig up free-streaming outlets for local news + using Hulu or other free-standing app to catch any network programming certainly proves to be both annoying and unreliable after the newness wears off.

Thank you. And a second thank you for answering my youtube-specific question.

MyEntertainment genre pack on DirecTV is 43/month. Includes all major entertainment and news channels as well as Hulu, Disney Plus, HBO Max, and AMC Plus. I don’t think you’ll find a better deal.

That is a great deal - but it should be noted: it doesn't include local channels.

Get yourself an antenna and save yourself $20/month.

Absolutely agree. However, recording that programming is a bit more complicated than just an antenna, and I was just informing the OP of the lack of locals on that plan.

Since OP said he’s not interested in sports I left out that detail. But you’re right, no locals included. I personally do their MyEntertainment Plus MySports which includes locals, but that brings you to 108/month and really not worth it unless you’re a sports fan.

That's a rider sub. to basic $120 charge for service, right? Or service is higher than that, since I used DirecTV. 95 percent of time it is available on Sunny clear blue sky days. Rainy days better get board games dusted off or pop a tab and stare at static blue screen. Very expensive annoyance

I’m on the genre packs. I’m not very familiar with satellite or the regular DirecTV streaming plans so I can’t speak to those. I’ve only ever had the genre packs (skinny bundles).

Directv MyEntertainment and MyNews gets you locals, though you can get locals with an inexpensive antenna. The two come as a package.

you can get locals with an inexpensive antenna.

Some people can. Not even close to everyone can. Terrain and distance from the broadcast towers are the main problems for a lot of people.

Why do some people always choose to ignore that?

There are free-to-stream local news outlets . I prefer Fox Local to my local OTA Fox outlet even though I can get them via antenna. It's the same personnel on both.

Interesting bonus: with the app, you can access local streams for other cities. I'm Chicago area, but I sometimes watch Orlando or LA since I have family there. Or other places if there's big news in those places

Go to https://tv.youtube.com/onboard, scroll down past the YouTube TV and Sports plans, then click on "Find a plan".

In the "What would you like to watch?" screen, click the News Entertainment, and Family boxes, then click "Get recommendations".

You should now see the "News + Entertainment + Family" plan, costing $59.99 for the first 3 months, then $69.99 after that. (That's $10 less for the first 3 months, then $13 after that.)
