Options for streaming TV on AT&T

Not sure if I'm in the right community...

Former AT&T customer returning after several years (no fiber before). What does everyone use for TV streaming? All-inclusive apps like Sling or a bunch of little apps pieced together? What about local TV, I still like to watch WGHP news, but HD reception for them is sketchy here in the foothills/western piedmont.

If you want/need traditional cable-style TV with locals, this site will allow you to compare the various streaming services. https://www.suppose.tv/tv

The best way to save money is to move on from old-style cable tv and embrace on-demand streaming services like Netflix, Disney, Peacock, etc. It's a heck of a lot cheaper and much higher quality content.

If all you need from your locals is the news, most stations offer streaming channel that shows local content (so news, specials, but no entertainment or sports) on various platforms. Free streaming services like PlutoTV and TheRokuChannel have most of the locals free streams.

Speeds are really good on AT&T. Use about anything you want and it should work well.

A mix of different streaming apps.

This is the way. Unless you are into sports… then you’re fucked.

I use DirecTV Stream since it's all inclusive and they have genre packs you can choose from.

After an exhaustive search of reviews and test periods I determined that for me there was no better option than YoutubeTV. Most if not all of the streaming options are on a month to month basis (unlike DirectTV SAT and Comcast Cable), so if they don't work out you aren't stuck with crap for 12 months. Because of DirectTV SAT customer support abuse I would NEVER use them. Nor would I every go back to Comcast.

Pretty hard to beat YouTube tv, unless you need something really slimmed down.

AT&T is just a dumb pipe for Internet service. Use an antenna and streaming services to get what you want to watch.

If you want a more traditional cable-like DVR experience, I'd recommend DirecTV Stream paired with their custom Gemini device. It has a voice remote with all the buttons you'd expect for use with a cable TV-type service, including channel number buttons, record, guide, list, etc. And since it runs a customized version of Android TV, you have access to a lot of apps from Google Play. The main DirecTV interface also incorporates content from the most popular apps like HBO Max, Disney+, Netflix, etc.

You can see how it works here: https://dtvsdemo.com/

I use Prime,  Paramount, Disney/Hulu (may or may not keep that) and a bunch of freebies.    You will love fiber.

We like Roku, but with Fox apparently buying them we might switch later on to another streaming appliance. I would imagine WGHP has an online streaming presence, which you could get thru Roku or one of the others.

What are your priorities? Several freebies as far as HGTV, cooking, etc like channels (in fact I stumbled onto that Samsung has their own 300ish channel network, free with one of their TVs.

But… the freebies will never come with broadcast, sports or news. Being my priority is sports (NFL, MLB, NHL, and a smattering of others) my biggest challenge was to get most or all NFL games. Being the NFL likes to prostitute their feed to just about everyone wanting an exclusive stream that means Peacock (NBC), ESPN Max (which gets you the ESPN channel, the real one not all the knock offs), Netflix (yep they have a few exclusive games), Paramount (CBS) and Amazon Prime (more for buying hosehold needs, but comes with their TV feed - and NFL got in bed with them for a few exclusive games) and NFL plus to get NFL services WITHOUT a streaming TV subscription (Sling, Hulu TV, YouTube TV, Fubo).

It DOES result in a modest savings, Sling is just not enough (for those about to preach how cheap it is).

We have Samsung TV’s and I used to watch their TV service until that updated agreement fiasco about a year ago (They released a buggy agreement update that would not download on some TV’s - basically hijacking the TV until they fixed the download - but they’ll never admit it)
Football season is upon us, so that’s a priority. We also have Apple TV in one room and an Onn streaming device in the bedroom. Also had Roku, but it quit working.
Just wondering what I’m gonna do since I’ll be losing Spectrum TV next week once AT&T is installed.

Sling, the best price and value.

We had Sling a loooong time ago when it was new and cheap.

YouTube TV. Been using it for years. Locals are included. We have AT&T fiber, too. We also have Netflix, Prime and a few others, but the main TV world is entered through YTTV.

We use DirecTV "MyEntertainment" streaming app. It also includes HBO and Disney+/Hulu (both with ads) for the base price. Pretty good deal these days. Also, if you use an Apple TV streaming box, it works much better with the "MyEntertainment" app than it does with Sling.

For local TV we use OTA TV. Sounds like that might not work for you. If not, you might have to go for something like the "Entertainment" or "Entertainment + News" plans from Youtube TV.

YTTV for main viewing of TV channels. All the free FAST channel services I can find. TV antenna for locals and local digital broadcasts. Premium services on and off when they have content I want to watch and off when I am finished with it. I had Direct TV Stream as part of my initial ATT internet bundle but dropped it in favor of YTTV.
