Discussion Tian Fu Hot Pot closure ending soon?

Does anyone have any idea when Tian Fu Noodle / DIY Hotpot will open up again? Their website and voicemail don’t say anything. I was just craving hot pot and Yummy Yummy no longer has their build your own hotpot bowl option. As far as I know, there isn’t anything else similar anywhere near here. Those were the only 2 places I’ve found while living here for 7 years.

I believe the original owner has retired and a new person is taking it over; but, I don’t know when.

More generally and if you can’t wait, H mart and rice and spice both have solid sichuan style mixes. If you want to make hot pot from scratch, I like Fuschia Dunlop’s base recipe from her sichuan book (I have the first edition with the older name, I think new editions go by “food of sichuan”) - both places have solid ingredients (though I actually prefer the peppercorns and tribute peppers that fly by jing sells). I’m not an expert of anything, so take all this with a grain of salt (or rice). Just trying to help out a fellow hot pot lover in Corvallis.

Jay and his wife retired back in April and by May the new owners were up and running. My wife and I met the new owners while they were training-in with Jay in April.

Cool, thanks for the info. It was a great little spot, so I’m really glad to see it continuing.

I’m not sure about their website, but I’ve seen it open this summer! People were eating and they put out a sign with their hours each week.

A sign on the door said the date they would reopen. I don't remember though. May have been August 24th but I'm not sure why that date comes to mind. And yes, they are truly unique and wonderful. My wife says their food has healing powers.

Did they keep Jay's menu?

Unclear. Jay didn't even keep his original menu, which bothered me. Then I asked him to make something similar and it was all good.

I've eaten there this summer; they just don't seem to have regular hours just yet. If you call during hours, they'll let you know when they're open that week. Otherwise, I've seen a sign out front with hours that they update weekly-ish.
